The king is dead long live the king.

Well they say a week in football is a long time, but just over a decade is even longer and gazing there today looking around the stadium my mind wandered back to 1999 when we played Millwall on the opening day of the season on a gloriously sunny day and what happened has now been written in the history books, I tried telling the lads next to me in the Canton stand when one lad said 'fair play millwall look quite handy' I then realised he was probably in Junior school when myself and many like us were there back in 1999. Some of us refuse to accept it, but if ever we needed to look further then today was it.

Millwall turned up in huge numbers they took the pi** at our stadium and outshouted us vocally, their even talking about it on their site http://www.millwall.vitalfootball.co.uk/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=53594&posts=9 there is only one winner now and thats the police. It was all very sanitised today and whilst we have a nice new ground I and im sure many others minds wandered to how it was, when we were there back in the day. The game has moved on, theres a new fan there now who miss 20 minutes of the game at the bar, who only sing a few songs, etc etc. But theres no going back , this is the new order the modern face of the game and if your like me I think until the day I die I will always pause remember and think of it used to be.

Nice one.

I can't quite write it like you but I have such mixed feelings on evey match we play.

It's so good to see 23k watching our team in a safe and welcoming stadium, but most will never know how good it was in the "bad" days.

Found this on the Millwall link you posted -

Never went today but spoken to three Blokes who did and they said how Poor the support from cardiff and the Ground was from the Old Ninian Park.
Souless Pretty Lego ground.
very sad another club gone happy clappy i suppose pricing the True fans out.
And over 22,000 for cardiff v millwall, cardiff ! , where do these New fans come from .
I rem cardiff as a fierce little club, sad was there many foam hands knocking about
Shame to hear it

BUT THAT LEAVES 15 TO 17000 ORIGANAL CITY FANS TO CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE. AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS UP TO US TO CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE IT CAN BE DONE IT WAS DONE AGAINST LEICESTER TWICE AND THE JACKS. SO BLAMING THE STADIUM IS WRONG. ITS UP TO US TO GET THE ATMO GOING AGAIN. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Agreed, it is up to us.

But strangely enough it was when we hit 15k to 17k at ninian that I noticed the difference. We seemed diluted. The 12k years at ninian seemed to bring the best out of us. :ayatollah:
