VINCENT TAN: “THE FANS SHOULD BE HAPPY”

Wed Nov 09, 2022 11:04 am

No mention of the despicable rebrand, 2 relegations, the debt is much higher and nearly £50mill is owed to other parties including Dalman at a high interest, plus costly court case after court etc etc

And you’ve admitted you have had many offers but for some reason you keep turning them down.

VINCENT TAN:

Tan on buyers approaching him to buy the club -

"We have had many approaches but we have always turned them down for many reasons," he explains. "Most of the time it is that I am not really very keen to sell. I think we should take it up to the Premier League.“

VT on his time at Cardiff -

"It was 2009 when I first came in. In that time we've been in the Premier League twice. This club didn't go up for 53 years before that, right? So I think it's been OK, the fans should be happy."

VT on people wanting the Hierarchy out- to those guys who want Tan Out, or say Mehmet Dalman out, or Ken Choo out:

“ if they are so smart maybe they should plough in their own money - or ask a rich Welshman, probably a billionaire, to buy this club and take it to the Premier League.”

VINCENT TAN:

"I'm extremely involved, we still have plans and ambition.

"Cardiff is a big city, this is a big club, we should be in the Premier League. Get back up there and this time I can learn from the mistakes made previously, and look to stay there for 10 years.

"That's the drive for me. By then I'd be 81, but hopefully I will still be able to walk well. I'm a vegetarian, I exercise, I take care of myself, don't drink a drop of liquor, don't smoke a single cigarette. I'm in good condition and I genuinely feel I can be around to help turn around the situation.

"I hear talk that we have no plan. Do you honestly think I would have put in so much of my money if I had no plan? Do you think we are idiots?

"Do you think I would be putting in money every month, particularly during the pandemic, if I didn't want success?

"Yes I've made mistakes. Sometimes money has been wasted, mainly on players who cost way too much and didn't perform. Stupid transfers, ones our managers persuaded us to make. Wasted my money. But I'm still as enthusiastic as I was when I first took over.

"We just have a different way of doing things today, a business model I'm more comfortable with, and it's one more likely to enable us to sustain any success achieved. Younger players, who have good futures in the coming years, who have their best days ahead of them. Academy youngsters, I'm a great believer in bringing through our own home-grown talent. That's why I gave Steve Morison, our Academy boss, a chance as manager.

"What we're doing is the right way forward. I'm also hugely optimistic in my outlook, believe we can do things when others can't. The play-offs, for example. This league is so tight, three wins can suddenly take you right up there. Once in the play-offs, anything could happen. If I didn't have the drive to take this club back into the Premier League, I would have sold it yesterday.”

I travelled once again from Barnet to see another season of us struggling. Where is this ambition Tan talks about? full of shit

Re: VINCENT TAN: “THE FANS SHOULD BE HAPPY”

I am sick of him bringing up signings we made during pre seasons preparing for the Premier League as reasons not to spend now.

It is a totally different situation but here's news to you VT, you signed them off. You didn't do it with no knowledge of what was coming in. You did it as an owner who thinks he is the owner, DOF and all seeing eye. Teams make some bad signings when in the Premier League. That's life.

Re: VINCENT TAN: “THE FANS SHOULD BE HAPPY”

VINCENT TAN:

"We have agreed to keep Mark Hudson for manager for this season," Tan said.

"He has a contract to manage to the end of the season, unless of course he does badly. But I have faith in Mark, I think he can do a good job."

Tan said he would support Hudson in the January transfer window if the deals "make sense" and avoided what he called "stupid" mistakes of the past, citing the signings of Denmark striker Andreas Cornelius and midfielder Josh Murphy.

The way I look at it, if you were interviewing a potential owner for the position if we had an embarrassment of interest and he came out with that stuff in the interview would you put him in charge?

For me he wouldn't be anywhere near it.

Play offs and Premier League at the end of this season talk? Staying ten years in the Premier League? Still moaning about a combined £17.5 million spent in two Premier League visits (signings he oversaw as owner and ultimate decision maker)? Those signings still affecting his willingness to back a totally new manager now is bizarre.
Are there any owners out there that use signings under former managers as reason for potentially not backing the current manager? It is odd.

The owner seems as far removed from the realities of football as he has ever been. The state the club is in is down to him and the people he has employed. He has spent £200m. He sees it as a boast. He has absolutely nothing to show for it outside of two fleeting and failed spells in the Premier League.

That interview to me is not the type of thing I want to hear from somebody who is to take this club forward.
It screams 'The club are in a bad state, I have spent a shedload and am taking no personal responsibility for any of it'.
The talk of possible promotion is most worrying.
It is dml levels of delusional.

"Neil Warnock did a good job taking us up, but then he creates a bad side and buys the wrong players. Murphy cost £11m, hardly scored any goals, then left on a free transfer. He was never worth that money. I was conned.

"Stupid buys. The managers recommended them, pushed very hard, but we won't be making those mistakes again. What happened is still fresh in my mind. We will have more careful checks in the future."

The question needs to be - what would have happened if Tan had not invested ?

Would we have gone bust ?
Would we still have Sam Hammam in some capacity running the show ?
Who else would have been on the horizon to buy the club - I dont remember any multi millionaires being reported as wanting to invest ?

Like anyone with the benefit of hindsight - Tan would have done things differently - but it is what it is. At least we arent in League 2 with the JB's in the prem. And at least we are still trading. As a team we have been playing well - just that we dont have anyone up front who can put the ball in the net - which at the end of the day is all that matters.

Last night was the first time this season we have scored 2 goals at home - which is a pretty poor stat on the football and entertainment front.

Re: VINCENT TAN: “THE FANS SHOULD BE HAPPY”

What has he delivered?

The first time Malky was put in place by the consortium led by Ghee.
Tan fell out with him famously in the Premier League season where we were relegated.

We were then in a tail spin, a lot like the current one, and employed Warnock.
Everything points to Warnock being the total exception to the rule under Tan.
Most managers he appoints are pure stabs in the dark. I believe we just struck lucky under Warnock.
Those that laugh at that seem to fall short of explaining where the thought process to employ Warnock was on any of the other appointed managers. There is no rhyme or reason to our appointments.

Who outside of Cardiff City would put Mark Hudson in charge for any significant amount of time outside of our club? Not many, that's for sure.

Tan, as sole owner, has delivered on one promotion to the Premier League. He was part of a collective when we appointed Malky and Malky was backed at a time when not many were spending.
He has failed miserably during both Premier League seasons too. Let's not forget that.

So, in short he has gained a promotion as part of a consortium that appointed Malky and threw money at it and with Warnock. Whether people believe the Warnock appointment was a well thought out process and calculated or a pure gamble is up to them. For me the clue is in all the other appointments. We just struck it lucky.

Mate and look who we scored against a team that concedes the most goals, it was Ridsdale Tan bought the club from

This current squad are no where near
the promotion contenders.
If he thinks they are then his knowledge of the game really is zero
He will eventually sack Hudson after a poor run and then the merry go round begins again.
I still believe come May there will be 3 sides below us,but do we really have anything to look forward to?

I agree 100% they are not good enough for promotion.

His problem is that he looks at other clubs and what they've done and thinks he can do same at city well yes it can work but need a decent manager and bit of luck to get away with it.... but also it is a dangerous game to play and just as easily lead to relegation? He badly needs a football man at club to put him straight and as thats not going to happen you've got to feel we are only going one way...

Oh for Dave Jones as DoF.
He got one thing right mind, how the f**k did we pay £11m for JM ?

Jones is just the thing the club and tan needs .... tans to busy looking at what happens at other clubs thinking he can apply same to city but that is crazy and doomed to failure simply because we dont gave the manager to make most of what we got

Tan has a very selective memory. Warnock hardly created a bad side, we nearly stayed up despite the Sala tragedy whilst big spenders Fulham who spent about 50 million more than us were down by Easter. We finished two points off Brighton and look at them now.

The financial situation at our club was created by the hierarchy's financial mismanagement and not any one manager. Yes Murphy was a waste of money - though he didn't do that badly in the Premier League - and we got our money back on Reid. Smithies was worth the money and whilst we paid a little over the odds for Cunningham, it was not a large fee by Premier league standards. In the great scheme of things, with 100 million TV money plus parachute payments of £80 million Warnock's Premier League signings hardly broke the bank. And he had got us up on a relatively low budget and if he wasted 6 million on Madine, we paid peanuts for Patterson, Mendez Lang and Etheridge.

Some of his later signings were dubious, but he did mange to get a profit of 7 million on Zahore which evened things out a bit. And Warnock cant be blamed for Glatzel as Warnock was gone within 2 months and the 4 million we paid for him looks cheap given his scoring record now. It wasn't Warnock who sold him for 500K - the same price we have just paid for Etete. I know who i would prefer.

Wez his buisness model wont work with inexperienced manager in place.... but yes I think he'll only sell at price he wants for club... because he appears happy to carry on financing club at its present rate .... Hudsons contract maybe because got interesting offer for club? People shouldn't take what he says as gospel either.

And if you want him out for around £200m you'll get your wish - plus meeting the running costs of the club going forward. Put up or shut up.
