Cardiff City news as Mark Hudson reveals talks with Wales boss Rob Page to allay Rubin Colwill World Cup fears
By Glen Williams

Colwill not ready for Sunderland but fine for World Cup
Rubin Colwill will not be ready for this weekend's game against Sunderland but is not a worry for the World Cup.

Mark Hudson confirmed Colwill is back in full training and he wants to give him minutes over the coming week, however that won't be at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

"He trained with us yesterday. That is something we have been longing for. He came through the session fine and looks to be in good spirits," Hudson said.

"We also had Isaak (Davies) join in with us yesterday, so that's a positive. But Rubin is ready to ramp right up now and it's about getting him in a place we wanted him to be. Hopefully we can get him some minutes before the World Cup.

"Because he only trained with us yesterday, I would suggest he isn't in contention for Sunderland. But he is with us and that's what we wanted. He is on the grass every day now and will be all the way up until the World Cup.

"That is something, for Cardiff and for Wales, that we should be grateful for."

Rob Page names his Wales squad on Wednesday and Hudson revealed he spoke with the national team boss at The Vale last week to allay any lingering concerns.

"He will be fit and available for that selection," he added. "I spoke with Rob Page briefly last week, we had a conversation, which was good. The physios speak regularly, I spoke with Rob and told him where we are at with Rubin. It's about getting him ramped right up and ready to go.

"It's taken longer than we would have wanted. It's something Rubin is frustrated with and so are we, that we haven't had him for selection for a while. But he looked bright and like Rubin yesterday, which is good

In no other World Cup team does he make the squad. A youngster who has done next to nothing and not okayed all season going to a World Cup. Madness.

Well, he wasn't born in another country and some people (probably less informed than you, the Great Oz) has decided he may have a part to play...

I recall a certain game against Liverpool at Anfield where he scored a goal of Premier League standard against the recent World Club Champions

Call me over optimistic and under negative, but I think Colwill would be a better member of the Wales squad than certain others who may be travelling... ;)

Sven I appreciate he is probably better than some of the static midfielders in the squad but even so he will be nowhere near match fit. Rubin’s fitness has been called into question even when he is ‘fit’ so I can only imagine how rusty he will be after months of being ‘off the grass’

And you think he will play every minute of every game...?

Clearly, he won't; but what he brings to the Wales squad will have some 'value'

I am no supporter of international football but I understand why squads/teams are formed and what it takes for them to gel/succeed

My issue with you is not that you have an opinion; it is that it is almost exclusively negative and full of put downs for two teams you should (but don't in reality) support... :(

Sven I can’t help it that currently the two teams I do support (and have done for the best part of 30 years, home and away both club and international) are on a downward trajectory. Wales have taken advantage of a golden generation to qualify for international tournaments having had its best team in decades and it has been a brilliant decade or so as a supporter of both Cardiff and Wales. Unfortunately the period of success appears to be waining the the case of Wales and those we get may be the next starlets to carry the baton such as B. Johnson and D. James just don’t quite cut it at top level. We did well in my opinion to get out of the group in the last euros thanks to a stellar display against Turkey but in the other 3 games were by far second best. Recent performances (including v Ukraine) we have been poor and I do feel that this group will see us struggle to get a point.
As for Cardiff the club is rotten to the core. The academy is failing a lot every level, the coaches are poor throughout the teams and as I rightly called when Morison for the axe we just want to hire from within and hope it works. I disagree with sacking Morison he oversaw a change to our style with team of rejects and at times we looked brilliant but people thought it could be done over night. We have missed out on two (in my opinion) excellent managers since Morison’s departure as they showed interest only to be informed the position was not for filling externally.

And therein lies my point..

Why can't you simply celebrate Wales wonderful achievement of reaching a World Cup Finals for the first time since 1958 and enjoy the ride; wherever that may lead?

An unfancied Wales reached the Quarter Finals of their last World Cup and only lost to a goal from who was to become (perhaps) the GOAT that was Pele...

More recently, an unfacied Wales team pulled together and reached the Semi-Final of the Euros; and the term 'Together Stronger' has never been so apt

As for the Bluebirds, I have been going since 1968, so I am in my 54th season of support. Like you in your 30 years, I have seen highs and (mainly) lows that will stay with me forever and I can tell you that these are nowhere near the worst times the club have had; not by some distance...

I won't get into that, as I believe people are entrenched in their views either way

However, having seen us in the top division for the first time in my life, it beggars belief that anyone who attended during the real dark days think we are in a truly bad place right now; we are not by some chalk

Maybe it's just that we had it so good as a support group thanks to Sam (I 100% believe that) or that the hatred for the current owner consumes some so much that he could win us the Premier League and they wouldn't be happy?

They say the truth is 'somewhere in between' and I personally think history will show that

But in the meantime, we can't do much about the current custodian; but we can still get behind the XI on the field and not condemn them (a) before kick off, and (b) at every opportunity during the game, win, lose or draw, as you seemingly delight in doing... :(

Something_Blue was always purposefully and predictably negative and boring when he posted as Barry Welsh, so he decided to change his name when everyone got bored of his constant 'look at me' guff and called him out, like they are yet again. :sleepy2: :sleepy2: :sleepy2:
