The difference between Cardiff and Liverpool in those days was not as great as it is today. If had kept him - maybe we would be a top 6 club now. We always seem to have short sighted Directors.

I agree. I followed Wales home and away during that period and endured some woeful results.
However visited some wonderful countries and have great memories. Toshack deserves a lot of credit and certainly can take a lot of praise for our successes.

These were Toshacks own words taken from a interview he had.
Liverpool were going to struggle to get any money for me if I couldn’t pass a medical. So I asked if they’d let me go for free. That way I could go down to the lower divisions and see if I could get a role as a player-coach somewhere.
Cardiff was my first thought, but they didn’t fancy the idea. I think the Cardiff manager Jimmy Andrews was a bit too concerned for his own future.
You notice he only said. " I think" not that Andrews was actually against him coming as a coach

No, he did not score in his last game the hat-trick came in the last but one game where we won 5-1 his third goal was his last for the city.
Tho last game he played in was against QPR away city won 1-0
