Romaine Sawyers

Sun Oct 30, 2022 4:33 pm

Still don't know what to make of him.

I was so happy when he signed as I loved watching him play at Brentford and discounted his WBA form as i thought they are a bigger better version of us at creating an unbalanced squad with no direction or dreaded "philosophy"

Hudson seemed to go away from the 4231 but i guess we thought he'd be the ACM in the three but when he came on yesterday he appeared to be playing behind Ralls and didn't half slow the game down. I do not know if that's what he does or if they were the instructions.

What are your thoughts on him ?

My thoughts are that if playing at his best (as we know him to be) he is easily better than ralls. Sawyers however if so for some reason not replicating it here and possibly because the standard to colleague is not that same

How can he be better than Ralls? What is he doing to prove that?
Perhaps he is not replicating what you think he is because in the past he had better players around him that made him look better than he actually is. Now he has to show what he really is, it is showing up how poor he really is?

Ralls played 15 games 0 goals 0 assists.

Sawyers played 16 games 2 goals 0 assists

Perhaps you could explain why you think Ralls is so much better than Sawyers ?

We looked much more creative once Sawyers came on yesterday too.

Personally I think Sawyers is better playing just behind the striker(s), Ralls can play that position too. But is better as a deep lying midfielder

Sawyers is easily better than Ralls look at their careers. There is a reason Ralls has been here so long and never really been linked with anyone else. He is a good player at this level but Sawyers has been at some point a star player at this level

I know Joe is the boo boys stand out but in a game of top trumps which stat

Goals - no
Championship games - no
Premier league games - no
Pro games -Yes

Is a year older and his standout stint was when he played in a really good Brentford team that maybe flattered him ?

On paper ralls may not be “as good” as sawyers. But ralls is consistently solid almost every game he plays. It’s great having a player that can turn in a 10 performance but you don’t know what game it’s going to happen in. Ralls you know what you are getting. Plus. The team for me looks calmer and more organised when he plays.

Ralls is the glue for us atm, doing good job

For me Sawyers isn't fit enough to last 90 minutes. Makes more impact coming off the bench last 30 mins when he doesn't have to run as much and the defence are tired.

Has been a big let down for me, clearly has the talent to unlock a defence but often looks way off the pace.

two completely different players, Sawyers and Ralls, Ralls is a box to box man, whereas Sawyers is a number 10, i think Sawyers biggest issue is the wide men, when i have seen him play, our wingers tend to be rather narrow, too deep, and we didn't have an intelligent runner in a number 9. which makes his job difficult.

We all have our views but there’s not many people who would describe Ralls as “box to box” !!

A continuity player he may be but when does he ever make runs into the opposition box with or without the ball ?

His stats demonstrate but just watch him play. Nothing like a box to box player.

Agree that we are better team with Ralls in it. Surely you could play both though as Ralls can play deeper.

I am not suggesting it but simply saying it is a possibility. Personally I'd start Rino and Wintle as first choice midfielders but over the season you are going to get injuries, suspension and tiredness so it might be the case in a few games we try both Ralls and Sawyers together.

Anyone who thinkings Ralls is any near Sawyer’s ability when when it comes to passing or creativity is mind-boggingly deluded.

I don’t disagree with that.

However, one poster in this strand claimed Ralls was the glue that held us together and you said we are “a better team with Ralls in it”.

Wintle and Rinomhota are the defensive midfield players, Sawyers is the creative player (I still think it will be Colwill eventually), I just don’t see where you think Ralls even fits in.

Spot on, another fascination about Ralls, I can’t get my head around it tbh. I would put Ralls 5th or 6th in the pecking order of midfielders and he certainly shouldn’t be captain :banghead:

You honestly can’t be serious  consistently crap I’d say no where near solid

The club needs to employ a hypnotist to persuade Sawyers he's still playing for Brentford.

At the moment it looks like that Romaine Sawyers has been replaced by his non footballing twin.

Not in the slightest I’m afraid.

Very very lazy tonight. One of the biggest disappointments of the 17 players we signed. The skill is probably there but the application is sadly lacking.
