‘ Very very interesting and so much truth ‘

Plus sad how our fans were so hurt and divided:

RICHARD LEWIS:

Never forget Emperor Tan’s lies. This was the biggest and soon after, some three weeks later, he went back on his word and rebranded the club regardless as to what we the fans thought.

Personally for me it would lead to me staying away from the club for a few days short of 10 years and I only returned again last season. I probably would have gone back sooner when Neil Harris was manager but the Covid pandemic put paid to that, and I can’t stand Michael McCarthy so had no interest in supporting him at the time.

What’s interesting, and something that has always baffled and angered me too is that not long after we were rebranded the Hull City owner wanted to rebrand them by renaming them the Hull Tigers. Now the Tigers is their nickname so really would it have been that big a deal? To the fans they would still have been known as Hull City and I doubt that too many would care in the long run. But this was blocked by the FA and wasn’t allowed to happen. Now if Emperor Tan had said that he wanted to rename us Cardiff Bluebirds, although we’ve always been the City, I don’t think we would have put up that much opposition to it. Yes I’d rather we didn’t but it is our nickname after all and not a massive change in the grand scheme of things.

I think the FA having seen what happened to us and the massive effect on the club and supporters that it had wanted to save face and thus why they stopped the Hull City name change.

Also around this time I spoke on Twitter several times to the QPR chairman Tony Fernandes, who too like Tan was Malaysian. I asked him if he had any plans to rebrand QPR and why he hadn’t already, and he said that he didn’t see the point and that it’s not what the fans would want. That to me speaks volumes and says it all as to how Tan perceived us, and how little he thought about the fans or the implications it would have by rebranding the club. The man operated on a divide and rule basis and it was his way or the high way. He evidently is no longer interested in the club due to his sheer lack of attendance at matches. Someone said it’s been four years since his last? What football club owner do you know who’s stayed away that long?

But in all of this we are still forced to play with a Malaysian red dragon on our badge, which has no relevance or significance to the club and looks completely out of place, and several fans, myself included, refuse to buy any merchandise with that badge on it. As well as being sponsored by the Malaysian tourist board or whatever they are, and having loads of branding and sponsorship around the stadium advertising Malaysia. Surely it’d be better having more local businesses or more relevant companies advertised around the stadium?

Another point is that Emperor Tan bought two other football clubs, FK Sarajevo from Bosnia in 2013, who play in maroon and white, and Belgian club K.V. Kortrijk in 2015, who play in red and white. So there’s not a need for Tan to do anything with the latter but he’s made no attempt ever to rebrand FK Sarajevo, nor do either club play with a Malaysian red dragon on their badge or have they ever since he acquired ownership of them. So why do we have to still endure this, and if as proven by his lack of attendance and interest do we still have to turn out with that worm on our badge that looks completely out of place and is a constant reminder to the awful rebrand that should never of been allowed to happen, and split a once united and strong fan base to the point where some fans fell out with one another, people who they’d been friends with for many decades, and others never returned at all.

Our fans were treated despicable and no respect given to us or our clubs history and identity

And he’s part of the problem in my opinion. Apathy spreads upwards. He’s deserted the club some supporter he was.

He seems to find every reason not to support the club didn’t like MM. I couldn’t stand MM but he didn’t stop me going to the place I love. Just like no owner would. Because the club and its supporters are my live. Managers owners I have no control over.

Imagine tans red dragons had stayed up in the premier League.we would still be suffering the embarrassment today with no chance of getting the bluebirds back

I had a season ticket until Tan took over. I will not have another one until he has gone. :bluescarf:

We will have to open up the red seats when Tan eventually goes with all these returning fans

I think it will be an anti-climax when he does, in hindsight football changed when we moved across the road to our new home nearly 15 years ago.

You didn't walk away, Annis; you stuck with it and voiced your opinions whilst sticking with the team

Those who walked away did so for many reasons; not all for the reasons they display publicly

Notwithstanding the arguments for or against the rebrand, for many, to walk away when they did was an excuse not a reason...

Sam Hammam changed the badge and nobody gave a shit as he manipulated those that could control the away support at that time i.e Valley Rams.

I did and I told him that to his face and never bought anything.

But as you really know the truth anyway, Sam changed after a meeting with the Valley Rams who designed and voted on it.
Just ask Corky and Gwyn.

A ST David’s badge, still not right but better than a Malaysian badge or worm.
