Mark Hudson admits he's at a loss to explain the decision

Mark Hudson admits he's at a loss to explain the decision behind Callum Robinson's disallowed goal during the defeat to Coventry City on Saturday.

"Its disappointing, but overall we didn't work the keeper enough. So I'm not going to make excuses for the performance.

"We weren't quite at i

Robinson thought he'd cancelled out Viktor Gyokeres' first-half opener at the Cardiff City Stadium just after the interval, controlling a Joe Ralls header with his back to goal before turning to fire home.

But referee Bobby Madley, after consulting his assistant, deemed the Republic of Ireland international to be offside, disallowing the goal.

It was a decision that would, in many ways, sum up a frustrating afternoon for the hosts, as they were condemned to their first defeat under the interim boss.

MARK HUDSON:

However, while frustrated at the incident, Hudson admitted the decision wasn't enough to mask what he believes was a disappointing performance.

"I think the first half we weren't at the level we were last week and we spoke about that at half-time," he said. We started the second half really well and scored a goal that was disallowed.

"I think that in a moment where you know you've not started a game well, but you've started the second half better, you get yourself back in the game and it gets taken away from you.

"I'm still trying to work it out. I've watched it back over and over again. He's onside. They've given it offside because of the rule that the defender isn't in control of the ball.

"My argument to that is that good strikers keep themselves onside. And he was onside throughout that.

"So it's disappointing, but overall we didn't work the keeper enough. So I'm not going to make excuses for the performance.

"We weren't quite at it."

A hard-fought match it may have been, but we were distinctively second best in terms of effort and ability. Coventry deserved their win and we have to realise that we are close to League 1 than the Premier League. I hope the players realise this

It's the inconsistency of so many teams that frustrates so many fans of teams in the Championship and we are no exception.

After two decent wins in a row we would have all been hoping that the team could perhaps kick on and make a move on the upper reaches of the division but todays turgid performance tends to suggest how our season is likely to pan out - a few good performances and results, a few bad performances and results and a lot of average performances and results.

I think it's probably best if we try not to get too excited when we have a few decent results or too down when we have a few poor results.

Difficult of course for football supporters who constantly live in hope where their football club is concerned.

I don't see us contenders for the play-offs or relegation.

This is a great post and is exactly how I feel.

I said at the start of the season that we would be inconsistent and in fact most teams in the championship are no different.
Mid table would be a good season this time around.

The expectations are stupidly high with many fans on here. A couple of good results and we are going to make the playoffs and a loss and we’re going to be relegated!

Yet after watching us at Wigan I could see us challenging

Love the championship

Buy the right players especially at top and we can compete for top 6

blimey what is it with this club and our players, how many more times from different managers do we have to read 'we were not at it' or ' not with it'.

so don't pay the buggars!

Said it for years!! If we never delivered in our jobs we would never be paid! Never happen though. Some of us die hards should be allowed in the dressing room afterwards.

If the manager says the players where not at it
Then its down to the manager who has not managed to gee up the players and get them firing from the off
perhaps the manager though they are bottom of the division for a reason and took them for granted along with the players
i find bottom teams fight harder unless its gone beyond
At the end of the day the manager could not get his team firing from the off and has to take full responsibility for the loss imo .
