Match facts:

Wigan and Cardiff last met in the 2019-20 Championship campaign, with the Latics winning 3-2 at the DW Stadium that season.

Cardiff have lost five of their last eight league visits to Wigan (W1 D2), with their only win there coming in February 2015, a 1-0 victory via a goal from Aron Gunnarsson.

Wigan Athletic are winless in seven home league matches (D4 L3), including all five so far this season (D3 L2). The Latics have never started a league season with six winless home matches.

Only Bristol City (11) have lost more Championship games away from home in 2022 than Cardiff (10), with the Bluebirds losing four of their six league games on the road this campaign (W1 D1).

Wigan’s Will Keane – who has scored two of their three home league goals this season – netted on his first league appearance against Cardiff for Sheffield Wednesday in February 2015. Indeed, this will be his fourth league game against them, all of which have been for different teams and all at home (Preston and Hull also).

I was there that night.

Malky was the Wigan manager, his first job since getting dismissed by us. There was quite a bit of friction in the air that night with our board refusing to go into the Wigan board room but decided to join us away fans. I spoke to Choo that night and so did many others. I've got to say it was all good banter and whatever you say about him he is an approachable character.

As for Malky he look very uncomfortable in the dugout. A handful of us asked him to do the Ayatollah of which he replied with a half hearted one hand one. Those that asked him you could see in their faces they were not too sure if they should have done. As for Malky he just was not sure about replying at all.

Our board painted Malky as a racist but he had Kimbo in his starting 11. For me it was very confusing that subject and personally I wished the club had kept quiet before the game where they brought the subject up again. It really achieved nothing.
