A VIEW FROM AFAR (v BLACKBURN ROVERS)

Tue Oct 04, 2022 9:37 pm

Blackburn are a decent team with some very good players (Brereton-Diaz the pick) and Dirty Ayala, so we knew this was going to be another tough game...

The game started brightly with the Bluebirds looking to attack at every opportunity, which left Blackburn looking to counter attack when they could. For me, playing Callum Robinson through the middle played dividends and he and the Bluebirds were a tad unlucky not to be 2 or 3 up by half-time

Was this down to a shift of policy from caretaker Mark Hudson?

For all the negativity surrounding his tenure, I actually believe it was and I felt the Bluebirds both took the upperhand and (in the end) delivered from their efforts with another super strike from the much-aligned Mark Harris and a class penalty save from Ryan Allsop

Thus was a much needed but deserved win for the Bluebirds and one that should create an air of positivity going forward; particularly with Robinson starting to show why we shelled out on him. His movement and assistance for others around him (the Harris goal a top example) is startung to show through

If there are to be any downsides to this evening, I woukd say they are two-fold...

Firstly, we could/should have been out of site by half-time; and secondly, we might have conceded 3 daft penalties under another referee!

Overall, a great performance for 90 minutes that bodes well going forward and the players can be rightly proud tonight no matter the deliberate negativity of the one clown on here...

Great result, Bluebirds...! :bluebird: :bluescarf:  :ayatollah: :notworthy:

After years of turgid hoofball, what a joy it is to see my beloved Bluebirds playing free flowing attack minded football this season. From a total squad rebuild just a dozen games ago, they totally outplayed a fancied Blackburn side and once the frontline get to know each other properly they are going to take some stopping. A 1-0 win doesn't reflect how well they played but its not the first time this season that the score doesn't reflect the chances created. Its not just the forwards though - Kipre has surely been the Championship defender of the season so far. It all goes to show that while he came across poorly in the media with his honest assessments, Steve Morison knew exactly what his vision was and we should not forget his contribution to changing the whole ethos of the club. I'm actually excited to watch us again :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

It’s more than a contribution he is the one who changed it other managers will now reap the benefit of his work

I'm reliably told Morison messed it up for himself for mainly off-field reasons rather than pure results and regardless of our personal feelings towards the owner (I believe mine is a fair and balanced one) we must understand that any owner must be able to trust the man steering his vessel

Notwithstanding that, I concur with your assessment that Steve Morison started the positive changes from which we are slowly but surely reaping benefit

However, what I saw (from afar) last night was a team that seemed to have that little more oomph and determination than we saw in previous games and we held it to the end

A somewhat fortuitous but hard earned point on Saturday followed by a deserved win last night using a change of style, showed that the current team leader has something about him and (importantly) players who will put in a shift for him

Some interesting games ahead though and now is not the time to start long-term contract talks..
