Connor Roberts confirms assistant Craig Bellamy isn't a Cardiff City fan

Swansea City supporting Burnley defender Connor Roberts was slightly dubious when hearing that Craig Bellamy was joining the club.

The right back, who still carries a torch for the Jack Army, had concerns that his fellow Welshman was a fan of rivals Cardiff City.

Bellamy, who came to Turf Moor as Vincent Kompany's assistant in the summer, was born in the Welsh capital and had a couple of spells with the Bluebirds.


Connor Roberts was pleasantly surprised when he finally got to meet Craig Bellamy the 43-year-old ex-Liverpool and Newcastle United striker. He said: "He's not a Cardiff fan!

"When I came here I checked, but he wasn't. He's a Liverpool fan so it doesn't really bother me too much. I think if he was a proper Cardiff fan he would have something to say."

It’s widely known that Bells has No Love for Cardiff City and does not support them. He’s told me the Bluebirds have never been his team and Liverpool is who he supports. He did get taken by his Dad to watch Cardiff as a kid, but he had no attraction to them. Absolutely loves Liverpool and the other team he looks out for is Celtic.

This is not news we have always known this that doesn’t take away he is proud of Cardiff as a city and Wales.

Absolutely agree. I think he's a passionate Welshman who has always given 100% for his country and that is the main reason why he's popular amongst City fans, regardless of who he supports. Be interesting if he does the Ayatollah, as he's surely going to be asked to

Certainly as a passion for football as he showed when he helped us to promotion... may not have the love for us but cannot question is commitment to get city promoted....

It is very strange that this seems to matter so much to Connor Roberts, they are both Burnley employees, why worry about us other than in the context of their jobs on Saturday?

I find there are feelings Swansea affiliated people have about us that are not reciprocated the other way.

If you offered me 2 heavy defeats to the Jacks but we would win the league I would take it without question. I feel if you offered them the same they would not take it but would take two wins over us even if they were relegated.

It’s always been known he supported Liverpool, as most of his generation supported the likes of Liverpool, Man United, etc. Why don’t Roberts ask Hartson who he supported as a kid, it was probably Liverpool as well. Bellamy obviously had some affection for City, as he could have played for any team in the premiership, but decided to drop down a division and come on loan from Man city. He even signed for us for a second spell from the team he supported, this is a lot more than Hartson ever did.

I hate Bellemy's no 39 shirt. The Saturday before he signed I had 4 numbers and the thunderball. The number
I didn't have was no 39. When he signed I could have chucked a brick at him when he ran out.

Seriously though he put some great performances for us, and, would love to see him as manager at the City.

The boy probably spent more of his youth in England than Cardiff.
That doesn’t mean he didn’t show more passion than most when wearing the shirt and helping us get promoted and probably stay up if not for Tan

Roberts is having a dig somewhat but genuinely is brought up bigoted against anything Cardiff. I work with them it is constant, like opposing fundemntalist religions. Their mindset is to get the antennae up when
Cardiff are about. To trash us saying about Bellamy is a result for him. Where Bellamy on the other hand, couldn't give two fcks!!!
