Burnley's leading goalscorer Jay Rodriguez has hailed the impact of assistant boss Craig Bellamy as a key factor in his impressive season so far.

The Cardiff City hero has been working alongside Clarets coach Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor, and his methods are seemingly already earning rave reviews.

Rodriguez has been in red hot form so far this season, scoring five goals in eight games, and believes the influence of Bellamy has been a significant driving force.

It's been brilliant, Craig Bellamy has been great since coming in," he said. "He sees things in my game that he saw in his own game, which has helped me out in situations. We had a chat today [Tuesday] about certain aspects of my game which he thinks I can improve and how that will help the team as well.

"That's what you want as a player, someone who has that eye for detail, who can see what works while telling you how to improve as well. To listen to Bellamy, with the career he has had, and the coach he is now, is definitely a big thing and you need to listen to people like that."

He added: "We spend a lot of time at the training ground with all of the coaches. They're always around so you need to listen and learn from them. That's the way it is.

And some people think he just shouts at players and wouldn’t be a good choice for us.

Bellamy with the right no.2 is our dream ticket to galvanise this club.

You know full well that it's one thing being an assistant and completely different being the person in charge.

People like Mark Bowen, who was a very good assistant with Mark Hughes but struggled as a manager, prove that.

Obviously there are exceptions to that rule. Such as Kieran McKenna who was an assistant to Solskjaer at Man Utd and now doing a good job as manager with Ipswich in League One. Rob Page doing well with Wales as well.

Bellamy may well go on to be a great manager, I hope he does because I've been lucky enough to meet him a few times and he deserves the success. But to say he's the "dream ticket" us completely wrong. He still has zero managerial experience, said the same when he was linked with the Wales job.

Point is academic anyway, as we all know he'll never work for Tan.
