Mark Hudson was not one of Steve Morison’s recruits he was originally brought in by Vincent Tan.

Hudson’s previous managerial career has been twice at Huddersfield Town as a caretaker manager where he lost every game both times, hopefully this time around he has a better run.




Mark Hudson’s Bluebirds will face Burnley at home this Saturday with virtually a fully fit squad.

Owner Vincent Tan has given Hudson 3 matches to take the managers job on a permanent basics:

Burnley home, Blackburn home and Wigan away.

How has this come about?

I’ve been asked to look after the club in the interim, a big honour for me. I was here as a player, been here as a coach. It’s a big honour for me to lead this club.

Yeah, we have spoken on Zoom and on the phone. It’s an honour for me to be given the trust to lead the club in the interim.

We have three games in a week. It all comes around so quickly. We looked at Burnley today, to put the players’ minds on the game.

Surprised when Steve went?

Yeah. To talk about Steve, it’s nothing but admiration for what he did for the club. To change the squad. 17 players coming in, that’s a big, big change. It’s sad when someone loses their job. We have got to carry that and the club has to go forward as well.

I have spoken about this with the board and Vincent. They have been willing to help me look at it. From my point of view, it’s not to be rushed, it has to be the right person. It has to suit the players. It’s not to be taken lightly. If that’s not right then it won’t happen.

We have had some away on international duty. We were in last week and we called a meeting. We spoke through the disappointment about him losing his job. We have got games coming up so the club and football moves forward. We look forward to Burnley.

I’ve got two boys who were born here, so it means a lot. It is an honour. To be stood in the technical area for Cardiff, wearing the badge is a proud moment. It’s down to results and we have to focus on this game.

Yeah I’ve been in this situation before. I’m only 40 but I’ve been around football for a long time. I’ve a lot of experience. It’s about focusing on us. We really have to look forward to it and showcase what we are about.

I’m not going to give away too much! We have had some time on the grass. The players have been on board. The Welsh boys came back in, the two Republic of Ireland boys and Gavin Whyte came back in today.

Proud. If memory serves me right, it’s a long time ago I came here as a player. It’ll be proud here.

I’m attached to the club. I gave my all for this football club and that’s what we are asking of the players.

Not from my point of view. It’s not something I’ll ever focus on. That’s just football. It’s part and parcel of it. I just want to be as positive as I can. That’s what I’m asking.

Had a long, hard look at them. Bellers is coming back with Mr Kompany, who has made a change in playing style there.
Bellers is always friendly with me! I’m sure there will be some nerves deep down in his gut.

How did it go last time you were in that position of interim?




It’s about experience. I’ve been in this position before. I’m approaching this game at the weekend as my full focus is on that.

My first game was Man City at home, so nice and easy, live on Sky on Sunday!

I will learn by the past results. Yes we lost the games, but you lean from them.

It’s totally different. A different football club. Look at your past and take those experiences with you.

Time scale?




We haven’t spoken about the time scale. It’s about focusing on the games coming up. We know how well Burnley are doing, we need to be at it.

I take it in my stride. Hands-on is my approach and I’ll take that going forward.

I never look too far forward. That’s my motto, live for the now. Off the pitch and on the pitch, that’s what I’ll focus on.

I love this side of it. Management and head coach are different roles. Hands on and interactive with the players.

Rubin Colwill can’t get in the side, you conscious of that?






I’m not going to talk about previous (managers). If I talk about Rubin, we know what a talent he is. He wasn’t involved in the first fixture with Wales, he came on in the second fixture. We know what a talent he is. Between us and Wales there is a link and communication. He has grown so much over the last six months, physically and mentally, there is a lot of pressure on him.

He has a little niggle at the minute and we will monitor that over the next couple of days. It’s something we will communicate between the club and international setup, between myself and Mr Page. Trying to get the best out of him with a global approach. He has shot up. He has grown up to be a man.

He excites us and he excites the fans.

He has got a knock at the moment, we have to look at it over the next few days. He is important to the fans and the international setup.

He is a good human being and he wants to achieve as much as he can for this club. That’s what he wants and that’s what we want as well.

Hudson failed to win any game in the two separate occasions that he was boss at Huddersfield, albeit as an interim manager. I hope this is third time lucky with us this time. I hope he does well but I wouldn’t want him as permanent manager, I would like him to stay on as assistant manager though and bring in Rob Edwards as manager.
