Lower league football

Sat Sep 24, 2022 4:36 pm

It being Saturday I was obliged to watch football. At midday was a League one game between Forest Green and Exeter, and at 3pm was a National League game between Maidenhead, and Gateshead.
In neither game did they surround the referee pushing and shoving him, they didn't scream in the linesman's face, they didn't appeal for a penalty every time they were tackled in the box, they didn't sit on the floor waving their arms when the were tackled, and they didn't wave an imaginary card at the referee demanding a fellow pro was booked or sent off. The skill levels weren't there of course but this was watching football as it should be played, the more I watched, the more thinking about the Premier League made me want to puke. The money they get for being wankers is obscene and we continue to pay for it.
Love watching City of course, have done for nearly 60 years and if we don't ever make it to the Prem again in my lifetime I wont be sorry. Give me proper football. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Sorry but I can't agree, especially with your last point. I can never understand people who support a team but don't want to see them succeed at the highest level. I doubt most Man City fans (the genuine ones) preferred the days of lower league football to where they are these days.

Premier League may have a lot of drama, but I think to some that's part of the attraction. In terms of quality of football as well, it's never been better.

Can't see it happening but would love to see Cardiff City win the Premier League and spend many years there.

I would also much rather us get promoted as soon as possible than spend years and years more in the Championship - or even worse, League One.

Obviously I'll support the club anyway, but all I'm saying is I'm not fearful of the club being successful.

As for the games you mentioned, that's two out of many. You'll see the antics there are in the Premier League in many lower league games. That can be seen every week on the EFL highlights.

Well said don, the thing about the premiership is I love the promotion season but actually playing in it full of plastic fans, mega bucks, over analysis, everything and every game is massive etc etc. I know a few people that follow the non league game exclusively and can see why.

…and sh!t football. Seriously though, I love watching 70s and 80s football. Excited crowds, great characters.

I couldn't agree with you more. What amazes me is when they get home they aren't embarrassed by their antics. If i had behaved like some Premier League players do (and Poland last night) when i played football - e.g holding my head and rolling around when someone accidently flicked my shoulder - i wouldn't have been able to set foot in the pub for weeks. I would have been a laughing stock. Now they wear it as a badge of pride. Pathetic :old:

I remember Sam Allardyce having a good belly laugh  in Chico Flores face when he displayed similar antics. It really riled him but seeing it was Big Sam taking the piss out of him he let it go!
