Ninian park station trains

Fri Sep 23, 2022 9:41 pm

I have approached tfw about putting two carriages on the 17.13 city line service from Ninian park to Clayton that runs thru Central and Queen Street.
I am doing this through my AM Julie Morgan (Cardiff North) , The Minister for Transport at the Senedd , The Opposition spokeswoman for Transport, tfw themselves and my local coucillor.
Currently the situation is that in my experience tfw run one carriage all day on a Saturday up and down that line all day. from Radyr to Coryton. This is obviously ok most of the day but for City supporters using this after the match one carriage is not enough but two would be. (Each carriage has a capacity of about 100 and From my reckoning about 180 want to use it.) Those that cannot get on are held back in a queue by security and then have to wait for another half an hour until the next one. All this security, extra costs, wasted time could be solved by this additional carriage.
The initial response from tfw is that they normally run two carriages after the match. I do not use the service after every match could anybody on here that uses of used this service this season or last tell me if two carriages are being used regularly . I don't believe this and think it's normally one. If anyone can comment on this with a few examples would be extremely helpful or that it's one carriage all the time and i will incorporate the answers into my reply.

We usually try to get the 17-10 or 17-15 train to Radyr. It's always 1 carriage. We also managed to get the 14-10 after the Birmingham game early k.o. This was also 1 carriage. I don't recall there being 2 carriages after City games at all from Ninian Park to Radyr . Passengers rammed in like sardines. You don't mind waiting for the next train too much if the weather is fine, but it's no fun when it's pouring down. Also the jeopardy of whether you could get on the later train either. :old:

From what i can recall its a deliberate policy to discourage people going to the Valleys or into Cardiff from using the station and encouraging them to use Grangetown instead. We have the same problem getting back to Barry. Four coaches to Penarth, two to Barry, a town twice the size. The trains are already pretty full already when they reach Grangetown so often you cant get on. So much for the so called sustainable transport policy of the Welsh Assembly which runs TFW. I drive now.

Train services are a shambles no matter where you live... lack of carriages seem to be main problem it happens frequently on west Wales service to Manchester... sardines have more room to move than train passengers at times .

ARRIVA trains were awful. TFW unbelievably are worse. The Rhymney valley route through Caerphilly usually has 2 carriages for the morning rush 7-30 through to 9. After that, they are usually 4 carriages with about a dozen passengers?? Of course the millions spent on the METRO system will thankfully sort all of the problems out.

I still don't really understand the metro, isn't it just a rebranding exercise ?

WAG and Cardiif council act as if we have a mass transport system but we don't. Trying to reduce traffic is fine if you a decent transport system, we haven't. Has anyone actually used Grangetown, its third world !!!

I recently returned "home" so was looking forward to getting the Ty glas > Ninian Park train, they stopped it. How often they cancel the 14:15 Llanishen to Grangetown is shocking and its never on time and often 10 min late pulling into Grangetown and the 17:10 return leg generally only has 2 carriages !!!!! On a Saturday !!!!

How come Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham can get the right and we want to deter people from using the nearest station?

They havent got WAG running their cities that's why they have better transport systems.... like I've said how can you replace a transport hub which was envy of entire uk and replace it with nothing? They put bus stops 1mile apart depending on where your going? (Only two places in uk had bus and railway station in same place ) like we did ..... this metro thing will not solve any problems as it's a glorified railway statione in st mellons to city centre... then terminus is away from bus station when both get finished ... when last time used buses in Cardiff no one could tell me where uhw stop was from station?. You have to look at big board inside train station to see where they were great if you know Cardiff.

The trams make a big difference in those cities too

For a while I used to use Ninian Park Station a lot to get to the city centre/Central station quickly after games.

Not used it for years now because the limited amount of carriages means there are times when you can't get on the train and find it a lot easier to walk from the stadium to the city centre now.

But there are those who are unable to walk to and from the stadium from the city centre so totally agree that there should be more carriages on these trains.
