Tonight " BELGIUM v WALES "

Thu Sep 22, 2022 5:39 pm

Wales face Belgium tonight at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.

Kick off is at 7.45pm, you can watch it live on Premier Sports or S4C.

Wales are missing several players with Aaron Ramsey, Ben Davies, Joe Allen and Harry Wilson all out injured. Gareth Bale is available though.

Belgium will be without Romelu Lukaku.

Wales know they must win at least one of their final two games, with the other being against Poland at CCS on Sunday, to avoid relegation from the top tier of the Nations League.

Belgium are second in the group, three points behind leaders The Netherlands. Wales are bottom of the group, three points behind third placed Poland.

Wales' Nations League campaign has seen Rob Page play weakened teams at times due to crucial World Cup qualifying games around the same time as Nations League games. That was a gamble that paid off as Wales qualified for their first World Cup since 1958.

In the group's other game tonight, The Netherlands travel to Poland. Should they win and Belgium fail to win, The Netherlands will top the group and qualify for the Nations League Finals..

I think Wales are putting the effort in, just being outclassed.

We have no midfield.

But on paper Belgium seem to have gone big. Yet we are missing...

Ward, Roberts, Davies, Rambo, Allen, Wilson, Bale. Probably all starters if fit.

To add. The only difference really (and again ffs) is KDB. No shame in that though, Probably the best midfielder in the world.

Brilliant from Brennan Johnson. Kieffer Moore heads home his cross and Wales are back in it at 2-1.

Really good second half performance. A win against Poland and we stay up which would be a great achievement. Fair play , the timing of the Ukraine game fucked us in this group but we’ve competed in every game . 2 injury time goals v Dutch as well so the table could look a lot better for us .

We go level on points but we are minus 4 goal difference and they are minus 7 and they only beat us by 1 goal so I think any sort of win gets us 3rd place .

Complicated !

So if we win 1-0, they go through , a win by more than 1 , we go through . We match their 2-1 win and we go through based on our better goal difference across the whole group

Tiebreakers for group ranking
Edit
If two or more teams in the same group are equal on points on completion of the league phase, the following tie-breaking criteria are applied:[2]

Higher number of points obtained in the matches played among the teams in question;
Superior goal difference in matches played among the teams in question;
Higher number of goals scored in the matches played among the teams in question;
If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3, teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams in question to determine their final rankings.[a] If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 11 apply;
Superior goal difference in all group matches;

Thinking about it, if we score at least 2 goals and win , we’re all good . Simples
