Could he still do a job for us up front?

Hughes would actually be superb. Has done a good job virtually everywhere has has gone and always seems to unearth gems in the transfer market.
How he would fit in with this squad is another matter.

What gems has he unearthed??

At Blackburn he got Ryan Nelson and Chris Samba for peanuts. Both spent almost a decade as good PL defenders.
At Man City he signed Kompany for just £6m and Zabaleta was peanuts. Both helped City onto multiple trophies and titles. In fact Kompany is possibly their greatest ever player.
At Fulham he signed Moussa Dembele, a really great talent who went onto better things at Spurs. Sadly I think injuries didn't help but what a player he was.
Plus known commodities such as Andre Ooijer, Aaran Mokoena, Roque Santaz Cruz, Benny McCarthy, David Bentley, Bojan - all signed for peanuts and ended up either being very good for the clubs, sold on for huge profits or both.

Let's hope not.
The possibility the most unanimated manager we could sign.

Yes, yes, but apart from that lengthy list, who...?
The new BarryWelsh88 strikes again; sadly, another own goal...

You really think Mark Hughes unearthed these players? Most were well on the radar of other clubs and none were unknown quantities. ‘Unearthed a gem’ no, good signings yes. Plus you are talking a completely different landscape from the decade or so ago you refer to. Mark Hughes has never made a signing at our level and indeed at the lower level of our level

Why do we mention the same names every time our managers get sacked, surely it is now time to broaden our horizons and look abroad for new names, granted some we cannot afford, but unless we look, then we would never get to know if it is affordable

Mark Hughes would be better than ,Hudson, bamba, Bellamy, Jones, I think people do him an injustice and Hughes needs another challenge to reignite his managers career.
