MY VIEW FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS THERE HUDDERSFIELD V CARDIFF

Sat Sep 17, 2022 10:17 pm

This is going to be a hard write up.

Let's start with my Mindset. I feel I'm the only Cardiff supporter who showed concerns after the Middlesborough game. The way we went from that first half performance to nearly giving the game away has given me fears about us. I got a lift up to the game with my mate Steve, user Steve Bingham on here. Himself, his wife and I shared his car and I must have been a great passenger for the both of them as I expressed my fears. Sadly, I was right.

We got there about 40 minutes before KO. The away end is behind one of the goals to the left as we look. There was a boisterous section of home fans to our left and another section, spearated by a partition of seats, to our right. Banter started between the boisterous section and us. Some girl behind me was the target and the banter was referring her to being rarer plumb of which she was. She shouted back "That girl behind you lot now that that is fat". I doubt they heard her but I thought it was a great reply.

So onto KO. The first 5 minutes told me the way the game was going to go. Huddersfield were up for it while we were like someone who had just got out of bed. When we had the ball they surrounded us with 3/4 players. We struggled to get out of our half. Now an average side would have managed to get players in space under those circumstances and played them in. We just seems to have no layers in space although the man on the ball had 3/4 of the opponents on him.

This pressure from the home side paid off for them after 8 minutes. We had the ball but they won it back. They played it along our 18 yard area, forced an opening and scored from what i would say was a tap in more than a shot. Allsop just stood there as the ball went passed him. We had not woken up yet.

It was very much the same from the restart with most of the action coming down the left as we look. One move cause a safe out of Allsop but we struggled to get out of our half. When we did we were relegated to one long shot that dipped over the bar without troubling their keeper. We looked like we were panicing every time we went forward in desperation. Then out of the blue we got a chance to get back in the game.

It was from our first corner I think. We don't have the height these days so I don't expect much from the corners. This corner look like it was going no were then next thing the referee points to the penalty spot. This was to become the main subject at half time. What a weak penalty it was and you just felt something like that was going to happen. We are a struggling team and we just cannot afford to screw up on such luxuries as missing a penalty. To me at the moment I felt we had lost the game there and then.

For the remainder of the half you could feel the confidence in the home crowd voices where we basically struggled to be heard. Thank God HT came so I could pray for some devine intervention here. Sadly, I could not do that because it was penalty this, penalty that. Even it the sanctuary of relieving myself I had a couple of conversations going on about that penalty.

Come the 2nd half and I was hoping my none prayers would be answered. We dominated the half tbh but never troubled their keeper. We played passing football right in front of us away supporters. That being outside the box working ouyr way to the corner flag. This went on for quite a while until someone shouted "PUT IT IN THE BOX". Eventually we managed to do that only for it to be easily cleared. Sometimes we passed it along the 18 yards box where someone shout" F**K**G SHOOT". We didn't shoot.

That whole 2nd half we dominated but only managed one shot that went flying over the bar. Huddersfield relied on the break of which they did play that bit well. It looked like they were going to get that 2nd goal as we went into the last 2 minutes of injury time. They had an open goal but fluffed it wide. Allsop took the goal kick and instead of planting it up field into the opponents half he kicked it straight into touch. That for me summed up the game for us.

Great report as always Ian, and thanks for your company yesterday!

Another interesting read, Ian. Thank you... :ayatollah:

I was unable to watch the match but I have now seen extended highlights and what I saw took me back to several games before the Boro first half, i.e. lots of huff, some puff but little sign of blowing the door down...

The penalty was as tame and the opportunity to get back on level terms was not only lost at that point but certainly for the first half

Currently I am still with Steve Morison; but he has to stop 'tinkering' every single game and he has to accept his current 'possession' football is ineffective, if the end result is no shots and/or not seeing the ball into the box

That is frustrating to say the least!

Well Sven I felt he has disserted the possession game, specially in our half. The Middlesborough 1st half was evidence of that. Boro had a very high line ready to pressure us as we tried to pass the ball out from the back. We went long instead and caught them out. That why we went 3-0 up at HT. The 2nd half well that a total new subject to talk about. Summing up on that half we changed tactics and allowed them back in.

Yesterday we did revert back to playing it out from the back. Huddersfield swamped us. We had players in space and an average team would have picked up on that and used them. We failed there that half and that proved to me we do not have the right players to play that type of game. I feel Morison knows this now and is trying other things.

We have a long season ahead with lots of work to do to avoid relegation me thinks.

Chris a great report from Ian, I was going to write a report this morning, but I think Ian has completely covered anything that I could write.
Regarding Morison, i like yourself are still behind him, but why on earth did he not keep the same team, the same formation and the same tactics as the Boro game, if Harris was carrying a knock then replace him with someone else. Ojo could have played there.
What I will say, if things do not improve then Morison's time as manager, will be short lived. I feel come Christmas it is certainly going to be interesting! :ayatollah:

Seems someone has looked and thought about what you wrote and relieved the manager of his duties

Rog, I agree and I always enjoy his posts... :ayatollah:

Seems the Board were less patient than the fans, as we are no better off in real terms than we were this time last season under McCarthy (style apart)

Ironically, I had questioned Morison as the Tinkerman on another thread only this morning....

Surprised (at the timing) but not shocked

Chris As I said above about xmas, I was told there were rumblings on the board and if things did not improve he would be gone. The board decided not to wait until xmas. I am pleased though that the board have acted so quickly, another manager has already been lined up, and it could very well be the one that was ready to come to us last season, and it looks like there is another striker coming in as well. :ayatollah:

Lol that will get me in trouble.

Thinking now what's happened I keep seeing the images of Colwill as he led the attack in front of us. I've heard rumours he does not get on with Morison. His face expressions indicated that yesterday. He did not look a happy man.
