Went to Latvia in 2009, probably one of the worst places I’ve ever been

Hope you have a good time mate, let me know what you think, be good to know if I had a bad experience or if you felt the same

Easy mate, who’s Joff?

I wasn’t being negative to your post, I asked you to let me know what you thought and said I hoped you had a good time. I don’t come on here everyday so this is the first chance I have had to reply.

I was genuinely interested in what you thought as when I went I was really looking forward to it as it had a good reputation. This was early 2009 mind so almost 14 years ago.

I have done most of the European City’s same as you have probably but I didn’t really like Riga and it was one of the worst, I wasn’t upset, just disappointed.

Didn’t find the people very friendly like in Finland and Estonia. The weather probably didn’t help as it rained most of the time we were there and found it a bit moody at times.

When I say the people weren’t very friendly probably would push that to unwelcoming, at the time 14-15 years ago though Riga was getting a rep for Stag do’s so maybe the locals had just had enough of pissed up British people so lumped us all under the same umbrella.

In the nights we had all sorts coming up to us loads of backpackers/travellers from Eastern Europe trying to beg, borrow or steal, saw a Slovakian lad get hammered outside an Irish Bar one night

The market square bit was nice in the day time but overall the whole place was lacking an atmosphere and out of all the places I have been it had the least going for it

I imagine 15 years on it might be better and I have no doubt the locals are probably a lot more friendly since the pandemic as they try to get the tourism going again

As I said I wasn’t being negative to your post, when you said you were there I was genuinely interested in your experience

Everyone is different though, I didn’t like Berlin either but loads of people love it.

Krakow so loved, and Prague although I haven’t been to Prague in 16 years so don’t know what it’s like anymore. As I get older and more mellow I love the South of France, Nice is a top place, go there next year, can watch Ramsey play and I’lol come with you

I remember years ago Afan Lido from Port Talbot were playing out there against RAF Riga and a few of my mates were playing for them, after the game they went to a nightclub and it all kicked off with some locals.

Stephen,

We had a good time, it’s got better as we were left alone. A lot of older tourists now and yes a very beautiful place. We were tested well. Would we go back NO as it did not inspire me or the others. Boring after a few days, it was the compared I was with that made it a good time.
Over all enjoyed, but nothing special.

Did hearts take many fans there?

Officially about 1,000

But they were all over the ground, I would say about 1,300-1,500 superb away support.
They had Union Jack flags up in the home and away end

I think it was a record crowd of about 8,500

Always had a decent support, back in the day they used to get a full stand ( 8,000) at Ibrox.
