Wales boss Rob Page has backed Cardiff starlet:

Wales boss Rob Page has backed Cardiff starlet Rubin Colwill to reach the very top of the game in this country.

Colwill is one of the brightest prospects to come out of the Bluebirds' academy in recent years and many hope he will be central to any success that comes the club's way in the years to come.

When asked if he believes Colwill has what it takes to get to the top echelons of the game, Page said: "Absolutely. He has got all the attributes. He just needs to settle his body down with regards to his injuries and he will get there, I believe that."

He has endured his fitness struggles so far this season, though, and Page believes it might be down to "growing pains". The Wales boss understands that Colwill might be frustrated, but is backing him to come out the other side and realise his full potential.

"When you're a young player you are prone to it. Believe it or not, he might have growing pains again. He is 6ft 3in already," Page added.

"But I stand by what I said a couple of years ago when I introduced him to the squad, he is a talent and I think there was a lot of speculation in the window about whether he was going to move and he decided he was going to stay.

"He is as frustrated as anyone with those couple of knocks. But once he has got past that, he will be a talented player."

How talented though? Look what the likes of Ramsey, Harry Wilson, Brennan Johnson were doing by his age and there is little comparison.

I get that he is obviously a half decent footballer but he seems unfit and heavy in his running (slow)and not the best touch.

I’ll no doubt be accused of being negative but look across the bridge and you will see Alex Scott and Tommy Conway who are genuinely exciting young players impacting their team and I just don’t rate our Colwill up there with other teams’ youngsters of similar age.

I hope I eat my own words but I just think he is some way off being a decent player at this level.

Not shown enough yet to be classed as a star in the making. Seems slow not a great touch has a real problem trying to stay on his feet always falling over seems to have a balance problem. Seems to get injured quite a lot. Hope he makes it but I have my doubts. Other younger players in the Championship way ahead of him still a lot to prove.

I agree entirely with your comments on balance. He seems to be top heavy with a high centre of gravity so that when he leans forward he stumbles. I have lost count the number of times he has beaten a player in a confined space only to stumble or fall when he is trying to pull away. There are exceptions of course but the really skilful players tend to be on the short side with a low centre of gravity.
