Monday 12th September 2022

Morison has virtually a full squad to pick from:

Cardiff City have been handed a huge boost by the return of Ebou Adams, who resumed first-team training this week.

“Adams wont be fit though till after the international break”

Callum O'Dowda and Rubin Colwill are both fit for Cardiff City's midweek clash against Middlesbrough.

Steve Morison:

“I’m not worrying about the fact that we’ve only had two draws in our last five, we’re looking at performances. On the whole, [it] wasn’t good enough.

“What matters to me is how we play, not the result, we have to continue to play well, like we have on previous games this season.”

STEVE MORISON:

"All are back on the training ground and all OK at the minute," Morison said of O'Dowda, Colwill and Ebou Adams. "Callum had an impingement in his hip, which needed a couple of days. Because it was a three-game week it all came a bit quickly.

"Rubin just had an overload, he did too much. Should have managed him better, shouldn’t have played him against Luton. I should have kept him out and he would have been OK for the Saturday. But he’s trained fully since.

"From a fitness point of view, he is way behind the rest of the group. He was excellent against Preston on Saturday. Took him out of the game on the Tuesday to manage him and we didn’t give him long enough rest. We should have taken him out of the game completely and kept him fresh for Saturday. We live and learn."

STEVE MORISON:

In Adams' case, his recovery from a ripped pectoral muscle has been far quicker than many might have thought it was going to be

“He is back training with the squad and is delighted to be there, according to Morison, but the Gambia midfielder is still some way away from making his competitive Bluebirds debut.

"He is miles away," the manager said of Adams. "He did a bit of pre-season, but he has had 10-12 weeks off. He has been working hard on the training ground with the S&C (strength and conditioning coach)”

"He will need to be managed correctly and hopefully we will see him after the international break."

STEVE MORISON:

Kion Etete, the summer signing from Tottenham, is back on the training ground and working his way back to full fitness.

"Kion is back on the grass with the S&C, working through that from today," Morison added. "He just needs to tick boxes now over the next week and he can obviously filter back into training.”

STEVE MORISON:

Welsh youngster Isaak Davies' return-to-play timescale appears to be getting no closer.

Davies has not played in a pre-season friendlies or any competitive games this season.

Morison is hoping we will see Davies back in action sometime in October.

On Davies, the Bluebirds boss said:

"We won't see him (before the international break). He is a few weeks away yet."

The EFL fixture programme will return as scheduled from Tuesday 13 September, with tributes to be paid to Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at grounds around the country.

A minute’s silence will be held before matches, with black armbands to be worn by participants, flags to be flown at half-mast and the National Anthem to be played in stadiums.

With a national policing plan now in operation, the League and Clubs will continue to work with forces in respect of any challenges that may emerge regarding policing of specific fixtures.

Consideration to individual circumstances will be made on a case-by-case basis, in line with standard match Safety Advisory Group (SAG) protocols.

Cardiff take on Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium at 7.45pm on Tuesday, September 13, with the fixture being confirmed by the EFL on Monday morning after last weekend's encounter with Hull City was postponed due to the passing on the Queen.

In a statement on Monday, the EFL said:

"The EFL fixture programme will return as scheduled from Tuesday 13 September, with tributes to be paid to Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at grounds around the country.

"A minute’s silence will be held before matches, with black armbands to be worn by participants, flags to be flown at half-mast and the National Anthem to be played in stadiums.

One suspects Robinson will usurp Max Watters, who has only one goal in 19 Bluebirds appearances to his name, in the pecking order, a move which may well bolster Cardiff's ability to put the ball in the back of the net.

STEVE MORISON:

"He’s been great," Morison said in his Monday morning press conference of Robinson. "He’s had a bit more time training with the lads. He arrived on the Thursday, trained on the Friday and was in consideration for Millwall game. But we just felt and he felt it was too soon to start. So we got 45 minutes in his legs.

"We have had a good time to train with him now. It puts him in a much better place than he would have been if the game would have gone ahead on Saturday, from a positive point of view.

"He has had two or three days extra training with the group than what he would have had previously. He is an excellent player, top drawer. He brings that quality to the group straight away with everything he does. I'm really pleased."

STEVE MORISON:

"They had a great win against Sunderland recently, so it's going to be a tough game." Steve began. "It's a tough place to go; they are unbeaten at home, and they've got a top manager and top players. We've got to be on it to win the game.

"We had a plan in place from the Hull game all the way up to the Huddersfield game. Obviously, the Hull game didn't take place, but we continue with that plan for the rest of the week.

"That's what we've got a squad for, and we'll use everyone over the two games if we have to, to give ourselves the best chance to pick up some results. We have to get the balance right."

Morro went on to discuss Callum Robinson's first full week on the training pitch, before summarising City's season so far.

He said: "Obviously, Callum's had a bit more time with the lads in training now. He joined on the Thursday, trained on the Friday, and got 45 minutes in his legs at Millwall.

"It puts him in a better place than he would have been if the Hull game had gone ahead on Saturday. He's an excellent player, and he brings that quality to the group, in everything he does."
