Ned apparently the protocol is that sporting events be postponed on the day of official mourning? Not sure when that is other than day of her funeral .

With ten days of national mourning now beginning, I would expect all games this weekend to be postponed.

I totally understand if they postpone the weekends games given the circumstances however if it’s national mourning then All businesses should be shut and not just sporting events

I agree but find it odd that they’ve cancelled Friday already but not Saturday.

Basically another lock down but without television. In my opinion it's mass hysteria.

Can only think that it's because it's a matter for DCMS.

Probably postponed tomorrow's games due to giving supporters a fair amount of notice - especially for the travelling fans of Norwich and Stockport.

Obviously, I fully expect all EFL and Premier League games to be off this weekend (maybe even next weekend as well due to the ten days rule and the fact the state funeral will be around that time probably) but I expect it's just down to DCMS confirming it.

PM held a meeting tonight but I expect that was just for plans over the next few hours, with more in detail discussions tomorrow.

They say all this is planned for, "Operation London Bridge", and I would assume calling off events is one of those plans but it just needs DCMS to sign off on it.

Shame about IronMan Wales. Had a family member complete it a few years ago. That's much harder to reorganise than professional football games.

Probably sporting events will be cancelled due to the strain on policing services during the next 10 -11 days. A lot of public & ceremonial events gonna follow.

That's why the Tour of Britain cycling has been cancelled- the police resources are needed in London

This is the last thing she would have wanted

Fri Sep 09, 2022 7:22 am

Im sure her Maj would not want games and sporting events to be cancelled because of her. She would rather kids and parents go out and enjoy themselves and do some exercise rather than wander around a garden centre etc.

Have the minutes silence or a round of applause etc. The country has been through enough workless days , people need to earn money.

My fear is that every sports body will now start to cancel games and events as they dont want to be seen as the only ones to go ahead. Im sure Liz and Phil would want things to carry on as normal.

BREAKING NEWS: Government tell the Premier League and EFL football matches CAN go ahead this weekend... with clubs now set to meet at 11am to make their own decision on whether to play on following the Queen's death

Re: Updated " The EFL have said games are postponed "

Right decision to let sporting events to go ahead

The funeral and subsequent coronation will give ample opportunity to pay respects and enjoy the pomp and ceremony to follow

Iron Man Wales off? That's not my understanding...

A few people I know are entering and one (a serious competitor) has taken leave and paid over £900 just to rent accommodation for the event

Plus think of the people struggling financially who depend on jobs at sporting events for their income.

Minutes silence, black armbands and get the games on.

100% agree this

Absolutely pathetic by the FAW
Kids football, first game of the season and my son has been looking forward to it for weeks.
I’m sure the Queen would want kids out doing sports rather than being forced not to play

We have a recession on the way, a cost living crisis, energy crisis, war in Ukraine and record high inflation. People need to work every pound counts and they are being told NOT to work
Utterly pathetic from the woke brigade

My mrs has an email from her work where they made a statement about the queen and then offered support to anyone who was struggling emotionally due to the death
This country has been fecked by the woke

Minutes silence, applause, black arm band etc but cancel. People rely on home game money for that little extra, the hot dog stand, the cafes in canton, the pubs etc etc
I’m not usually a “this country@ type of person but this all needs a radical re think

Re: Updated " Cardiff City v Hull City postponed "

Fri Sep 09, 2022 2:26 pm

Absolute nonsense..minutes silence black armbands etc totally agree with that but no reason at all to cancel games

What about fans who have already booked tickets, trains, buses etc leaving them £’s out of pocket

It’s hard for people at the moment and people who work in the sporting/entertainment industry will lose wages at a time they can least afford it

I give up with this Country at times!!!
