Steve Morison insists he is focusing on performances rather

Mon Sep 05, 2022 7:19 am

Steve Morison insists he is focusing on performances rather than results, but admits his Cardiff City side weren't good enough at Millwall on Saturday. Cardiff slumped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to the Lions at The Den, and are now without a win in their last five games.

City have also only scored four goals in nine competitive games this season.

It is a run of form which will concern City fans, but Morison insists there are positives to take from recent games.

Steve Morison:

“I’m not worrying about the fact that we’ve only had two draws in our last five, we’re looking at performances. On the whole, [it] wasn’t good enough.

“What matters to me is how we play, not the result, we have to continue to play well, like we have on previous games this season.”

"For example, you can’t say that the Luton performance wasn’t good, because it was good and we lost the game. We need to get rid of this soft underbelly that we’ve got when we concede and fight back.”

“There were chances for both sides. They had a couple of moments in the first half and we had a couple of moments in the second half. We hit the post and they go down the other end and score, so it’s a game of fine margins.

"Every game, while it’s 0-0, you’re in it and you have an opportunity, while it’s 1-0, you’re still in it, but the second goal is the most disappointing thing out of all of them.”

F**k performances - All I care about is the result

Articles you would not find in the Rothmans Football Yearbook

They finished in the relegation spot but they played well.

I do find that a bit odd if we keep losing but the performance was ok, well it was not as we lost :bluebird:

Is he hopeing that results
will match performances eventually?
Luton really good performance 2 simple goals given away but millwall average performance at best but still lost both games? Doesnt he realise wins give confidence and boosts performances they go hand in hand... by time results match performances we could be bottom of league.. :o

Hull will be a must win game I think, no excuses now, though I believe Robinson was a panic buy and he has put all his chips on him :bluebird: It will be a very disbelieving atmosphere if we play the same against Hull and lose.

So as long as the performance is good all season going down won't matter.

Morrison has the same attitude when he managed the kids and results were not important. That attitude does not work when you manage the first team.

We played well quite a bit in our Premier League season.

However, we failed by 2 points (to Brighton) and the lack of points probably cost us around £200m.

I would prefer points over performance any day.

These silly comments will be his downfall, no professional sports team puts performance above results!

He would be buzzing with 8 corners and 18 shots with only 2 on target Vs Hull then even if we lose 1 nil from there only chance. Baffles me at times :bluescarf:

I think people are not understanding SM and to be fair it isn't clear and sounds illogical.

We have implemented a new style of play that we have brought players in specifically to play. There is no turning back. With Trollope>Warnock we still had the core of the team that played pragmatically under Malky and Slade. Those players are gone now.

When SM talks about performances being important I think he is basically saying that once the team further gels and further learns the new style the goals and results will come.

If SM went out Saturday and played 4-4-2 long balls we would get hammered. There is no other way than to keep going and improve on what we are doing. If SM can't take this team further forward than this, there are plenty of managers who play this kind of style out there who may well do so, but I still believe SM will do it.

Having said that it would be very useful to win Saturday and get the goal scoring and winning monkey off our backs and relieve some of the pressure.

Did Morrison really say this after the Millwall game, as he said this before, and is just repeating himself. The performances haven’t been that great, other than being able to pass the ball round at the back. We need to start seeing some results as the pressure on him is only going to get worse, especially with stupid comments like that.

Lets hope he is not going to stick to this mantra
if we loose to hull 6 on the trot.

Song for sat
All we are saying is give us a goal.
