I was sent this: ‘ Andy Carroll ‘

Sun Sep 04, 2022 9:19 am

NOT MY VIEW OR OPINION / BUT WORTH READING:

Andy Carroll's nine-cap senior England international career might have collapsed a decade ago, at 23, but there is little doubt the six foot four inch hit man, could offer Cardiff City a different cutting edge they do not currently possess.

The former Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham attack leader's proposed move to the Belgium League capitualted in the summer after a short-term arrangement at Reading.

The Geordie, who has bagged 84 League strikes, most in the top flight, is desperate to end his career in a meaningful way. Sources close to the player insist should the Bluebirds hierarchy approach him he would be prepared for a "meaningful" conversation.

At 33, Carroll would give Cardiff attacking muscle, his height being a real asset in both penalty areas.

A pay-as-you play arrangement would suit both parties- particularly if a modest weekly basic underlined the deal.

Once again, during the 2-0 slump to Millwall in the London Docklands Cardiff's limited attacking and defensive options - particularly from set plays - came to the fore.

Carroll is a free agent and available to sign outside a transfer window which slammed shut at 11pm last Thursday.

One of the problems at the moment is a lack of physicality in our forward line. Things improved in January with the addition of Hugill and Uche. It wasnt pretty but these two could hold the ball up and we had could go back to front quickly. We cant do this now and lack this option. Watters in particular is very poor in the air. Etete has the height and as yet we haven't seen enough of him.
Personally I would welcome an addition like Carroll as an option when we are losing games like yesterday. Morison has got to be more flexible with his philosophy and shape.

Not with a club for a reason, his ship has sailed.

Injuries put clubs off but did ok at reading who was a struggling team.... whilst obviously not a long term fix he could do a job of making us play up the pitch more.... no need either for hoofball just require his presence in box to get on the end crosses and to help create chances for watters or others... pay as you play is ideal scenario for both parties... or do you think we will manage with our team of little men?

Personally I would take him for the RIGHT DEAL, he could be what keeps us up this season, also he can bring others along with his experience.

If this could be done on a pay per play type deal surely it’s a no-brainer ?

He did very well for Reading last season and, more importantly, played most of the games.

He is the one thing we are missing in the squad, a proven physical centre forward.

He might not start every game but he’d be a good option off the bench if things aren’t going well.

It’s about options and, for me, he’d be a great option as long as the deal suits the club.

We need anyone who can score a goal.

A big no from me....patience with the team is needed

I'd take him if fit.

Absolute no for me, that would be a sign of total panic and incompetence.

We have no right to expect to rock up at the new den and beat Millwall.

We just need to reprogram our midfield to get the ball forward quicker than the pedestrian pace we are now. Carroll offers any team a lazy way out, just smack it anywhere near him let him control it, and lay it off, but to who the same midfielders who don't know what to do with it now, when the pretty triangles get the ball to them.

We just need SM to make some adjustments in philosophy and we will be fine,

Can you imagine SM trying to handle Carol hahA… the second he tried to throw Carol under the bus Carol would knock his head off.
SM can only handle younger players. Simply can’t deal with established players/men

Sign him but only on a pay as you play basis. Otherwise he's too injury prone.

Pay as you play is a big yes for me as we have nothing to lose and the worst he could do is not score so we would have to play or pay him anyway.
But offers the physical presence we desperately need

Should have let bamba back in for a season not full 90 mins but used him wisely.

Nah he can't play too old, big and heavy and consequently injury prone, he wouldn't sout our style in the slightest and would only manage five games a season f we were lucky, after vassel no more please.

Played 23 games last season...

Basic wage with appearance bonus could work. Offers something different to what we have when we need to go direct - which is quite a lot so far this season.
