MY VIEW / OPINION:

" NOT A GOOD DAY & HONESTY NO REAL THREAT "

Starting to worry a bit

What are really creating??

WATTERS WAS GIVEN HIS 8TH START IN A ROW AND STARTED BEFORE NEW SIGNING CALLUM ROBINSON WHO REPLACED WATTERS 2ND-HALF WITH A QUITE DEBUT.

This was Cardiff's 5th game without a win and only now scoring 4 goals in 9 competitive games.

Millwall were very ordinary and had come in to this game without a win in their last 4 games.

Lets say not one of Cardiff better games as weve played a lot better in other games.

Once again struggled infront og goal and actually Millwall did deserve the 3pts.

Still No goal from Watters.

Cardiff were very sloppy at times, gave the ball away to much and caused their own defensive mistakes, by playing from the back far to much.

FIRST-HALF: First 25 mins, both had chances, Millwall prob should of just edged it and been 1up. Allsop made a number of saves as the game went on, Cardiff were defending far to much and playing the ball from the back continuously.
Philogene, was Cardiff's brightest player.

Millwall had the most chances, but Cardiff nearly knicked it by hitting the post from Ojo. Cardiff never had a shot on target.

SECOND-HALF: Came on Robinson and Harris on for Watters and Ojo

Harris hits the post then a min later,
GOAL! Millwall 1-0 Cardiff City (Cresswell 63)

GOAL! Millwall 2-0 Cardiff City (Afobe 90)
Afobe with a solo effort. That's the game.

Cardiff did actually virtually nothing infront of Millwalls goal

MILLWALL 2 CARDIFF CITY 0
H-T 0-0
Crowd:
Away Support 1,460

Cardiff City : Allsop; Romeo, Ng, Kipre, Nkounkou; Wintle, Rinomhota, Sawyers; Philogene, Watters, Ojo.

Subs: Alnwick, Ralls, Sang, Simpson, Whyte, Harris, Robinson.

Allsop made a number of saves as the game went on, Cardiff were defending far to much and playing the ball from the back continuously.

Philogene, was Cardiff's brightest player, some good runs.

40 mins:Post! Oh, Cardiff's best chance! Nkounkou does excellently to fire a cross across goal and Ojo gets a toe on it at the back stick, but it pings back off the post! So close.

Millwall had the most chances, but Cardiff nearly knicked it by hitting the post from Ojo

H-T 0-0

Came on Robinson and Harris on for Watters and Ojo

Harris hits the post then a min later,
GOAL! Millwall 1-0 Cardiff City (Cresswell 63)

Goal. Cresswell heads in from the corner.
An outswinging cross and Cresswell rises above Ng and heads home.

69th min: Philogene off, Ralls on.

Sawyers off, Whyte on.

GOAL! Millwall 2-0 Cardiff City (Afobe 90)
Afobe with a solo effort. That's the game.

I said yesterday that we need to be patient with this team and I stand by that.

A disappointing performance and result today but I honestly believe things will improve.

Nkounkou was my MOTM, one of few bright sparks for us.

It's his team .Is he getting the best out of what seems some cracking signings. Hmmmm

Did we play 2nd half without a striker?? Because never saw one in penalty area...
All well good having Robinson but after 10mins he was invisible as rest team.... morison needs to address his tactics regarding attacking we got just sfa in attacking way especially away from home corners minimal players in area no commitment to get in box when ball out wide and worst of all no urgency or pressure on teams...

People are deluded if they think spending a few quid on a striker is going to make us a playoff contending team. A tin pot team full of freebies is what we have. Should stay up but that's all for the foreseeable future. :bluescarf:

Yet another game where we’ve not created anything. I’ve said all season we are not making any chances at all. No matter who we have upfront they will struggle to score goals. Another very disappointing performance by Sawyers, I thought he was our worst player today. No doubting he’s got quality from his previous performances but so far this season for me he’s been poor. And he’s our top goalscorer!
I agree when Morison says this team needs time and I will give them time, but sometimes we need to go for results over style of play. Today we didn’t really have a style of play and looked clueless with the ball.

The performances are now matching the results, tactics have to change
Do many poor performances today
Lose again next week and I hope SM has broad shoulders
Can accept losing if we played well
Today was bad, really bad

We were second best all over the pitch today especially in midfield.

Another relegation battle looms at the moment and we could be bottom 3 by the end of the weekend. We were a bit unlucky hitting the post twice but our general play in the final third is hopeless. We look soft and this team are now shipping goals easily too. It's way too early to push the sack button but Morison needs a win and he needs it soon. Pretty football is pointless if you dont do the basics right and cant score. We miss O Dowda and we need to win more going back to front. It's not sticking. Worrying.

We need to give the team and manager more time. Decision. Asking at times and a little luck hasn't gone our way but in time it will improve I believe..knoukou superb

Inasmuch that I agree with you to a point, I’m not, and never really have, believed that SM in the manager to take us forward. How much time he’s given to turn results around will be interesting….

Re: MY VIEW: " NOT A GOOD DAY & HONESTY NO REAL THREAT "

Weve got some decent attacking players yet we are scared to get forward and get players in the box. Morison needs to turn this around pretty sharpish.

I think we are spending to much time playing possession football but not enough on charging forward into the box
Pass and go means
go into the box.

I don't.

I usually wait until 10 games are played before making judgement. I honestly can't see us improving in the next 2 games unless Morison changes something. We will then be in a relegation fight and the pressure will be on to survive.

I'll be honest but this transfer window did not impress me. We have done it on the cheap and these first 8 games is the result of that. I'll reserve judgement for the moment on how we will do this season but I'm not expecting it to be good.

Said this several games ago his tactics look like micks if cant win dont lose attitude.... how else can explain 4 players in area from corner late into game? Or does he expect our 5'5 tall players out jump their 7 defenders ? :D

Re: MY VIEW: " NOT A GOOD DAY & HONESTY NO REAL THREAT "

Sat Sep 03, 2022 4:11 pm

it's naive, because SM is naive at this (or any) level. Lets hope he learns pretty quickly.

We have no originality, its straight from the new coach's playbook. Warnock used to rip teams like ours apart, even when they had better players. Pretty triangles in our own third allow teams to regroup. They practice their defensive formation day after day and we are no better at pulling teams out of shape than half the division.

We need to get the ball forward quicker, and we need midfielders to run, in possession, all they do is walk with the ball, we run in a defensive press formation, but that's it. It's very very static.

He has to drop this idea we are Citeh, we are never regularly going to pull teams out of formation and have overloads. we don't have that capability. There is nothing wrong with a 50 yard diagonal over their full-backs head, not every time but we need to mix it up.

He'll learn or he won't be coming back after the world cup.

A question, Are Hudson and Rasamut up to or do they need an old head in there ?

Ned,

Millwall are poor , Bristol City are poor etc and we struggle against these teams, I am starting to worry.

At least we should beat Hull next week, I’m bs k for it.

Re: MY VIEW: " NOT A GOOD DAY & HONESTY NO REAL THREAT "

Yep for me the biggest problem is getting players in the opponents box. We must be the worse in the league for that.

I also think we are not that good playing from the back.

I'll reserve judgement after 10 games but I fear we are going to be definite relegation candidates. Some say be patient which is fine and we might just come good. However, I feel that will be when we are in League One.

Yep that's exactly how I see it. So expecting nothing much but to stay up at best anything else is a bonus imo :bluescarf:

My point is that those clubs haven't had to gel in 17 new players this summer.

See you next week :bluebird:

Why we havn't replaced Watters and Harris beggers belief. We've changed the style of play and suddenly think we are Arsenal.I noticed in the latter stages of the Luton game there was no urgency.Trying to play it around at the back when we should have been getting the ball forward. There's still no Plan b.Someone like Uche would help.Maybe Carroll has got to be better than Watters and Harris.
It's starting to become worrying trend of being in the lower half of the league.

Best chance of the first half fell to Philogene who headed wide, set up by a good run and good cut back across goal first time by Watters

Other than that, can’t really say we did a lot in front of goal until it’s too late. We push our wing backs up, but there’s nothing to aim at or when there is they can’t pick out a decent cross. When strikers run near post, they play it to the far post, when queuing up on the penalty spot it’s whipped into the 6 yard box and when they’re in the 6 yard box it’s cut back to the penalty spot.

I still believe it’ll start to suddenly work but the long we it takes the more pressure will be on Morison and Watters, even if he only plays a cameo role

Only 8 games in.. needs time to bed players in. Couple go in it’s a different game. I think we’ll see steady improvement as the season progresses. Good Manager is SM.

We need to be patient, get a settled side, and start working hard, if we survive this year, we will be a force next year.

Re: MY VIEW: " NOT A GOOD DAY & HONESTY NO REAL THREAT "

Sat Sep 03, 2022 4:45 pm

Absolutely no urgency in our play. We need to pass the ball around much quicker to beat the press and to pull other teams out of shape to create chances. Trying to remain optimistic but starting to worry a bit now. Our three away defeats have been very poor performances.
