BREAKING / OFFICIAL " CARDIFF CITY SIGN CALLUM ROBINSON "

Thu Sep 01, 2022 9:00 pm

Cardiff City FC are delighted to confirm that Callum Robinson has joined the Club on a permanent deal, subject to clearance.

The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Cardiff City Stadium, arriving in South Wales from West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee.

The forward began his career with Aston Villa before joining Preston North End permanently in 2016 following two successful loan spells at Deepdale. In total, he scored 41 goals in 160 matches for the Lilywhites.

Robinson made the move to the Premier League with Sheffield United in 2019, making 16 top flight appearances before joining Albion in January 2020. After helping the Baggies win promotion, he signed for the club on a permanent basis, making 95 outings with a tally of 12 goals and 17 assists.

On the international stage, Callum has earned 30 caps for the Republic of Ireland national team and has scored seven goals since making his debut against Wales at CCS back in September 2018.

Speaking at his new home ground, Callum said: “I’m buzzing. It’s another adventure for me and a challenge I’m looking forward to. I can’t wait to meet the boys and the staff.

“I spoke with the Gaffer and I saw the match against West Brom, and City love playing football. That is me to a tee.

“I love scoring goals and assisting. It’s what I’ve done most of my career. I’m hoping I can do plenty more of that here and to help this team.”

Having completed his seventeenth summer signing, Steve Morison added: “I’m delighted to have Callum on board. He’s a very talented player, and he can play anywhere across the forward line.

“He’s coming in to help the squad, and I’m really looking forward to working with him.

“I’d like to thank Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Ken Choo for their support in bringing Callum to the Club.”

Welcome to the Welsh capital, Callum!

Excellent signing. Credit to Morison for finally getting a striker of quality and to the club for backing him. Hopefully we can move on and have a enjoyable sesason. Robison surely has to be better than what we have and will be experienced head for others to learn from.

Another striker? I have my doubts if we went all out for Robinson.

Welcome to the club. I can’t say I’ve personally ever been impressed when I’ve seen him play, so let’s hope SM can make him that much better. I always thought of him as more of a winger than a striker, probably the reason for his low goal tallies throughout his career. I would have thought we’d see Harris go out on loan (although does the loan window last longer) after signing a striker as surely he won’t het much of a sniff now, especially with Isaak likely to be fit again shortly.

Looks like the deal was done in the afternoon as it was still daylight when the pics were taken. They do take their time.

Looks like that's us done, according to Glen Williams:

Believe that's it for Cardiff City. Thought something was bubbling in last hour of the window, but it's safe to say it's done now. 17 and out! What a window. Squad utterly unrecognisable and playing style benefitted as a result. Callum Robinson a key deadline day addition

There are a couple of strikers who we are interested in that are out of contract who we can sign outside of the window ;)

Wouldn’t we have done it by now though? What’s the point of waiting?

No, because we were after other players before the deadline.

Came off the bench on Saturday for WBA but not involved on Tuesday, that could be for transfer reasons though.
