Is it only me who doesn’t get the hype about Rubin Colwill? He’s obviously quite talented, but only that at the moment. To me he appears a bit slow and some of his first touches are a bit clumsy. He’s been showing potential for 2 or 3 years now but doesn’t seem to have progressed.
Don’t get me wrong, I really want him to succeed, but is it ever going to happen?

Hes gone from u23s to Welsh international in less than 3 years?

how has he not progressed exactly?
He was brilliant against Preston Saturday and has added working hard off the ball to his overall game as well. He's not long recovered from injury and is still probably working his way back to full fitness.

Needs to improve consistency and fitness.
Both him and Isaak we are rooting for, but they need to kick on and improve. We all know Harris has passed his level and is Div 1 at best with Watters...
No disrespect to any player mentioned. But becoming your best means earlier, later and harder work on oneself...
Getting into Wales team is no real gauge to being high level championship!/PL level.. . Wales squad players haven't even had a club on many occasions.

I’m with you on this. Although he did have a very good game against Preston. Best I’ve seen him play. In his defence he needs a good run in the team to show he can perform consistently now.

The OP questioned his progression. He's gone from u23s football to first team player at club level as well as becoming an international player in 3 years. If that's not progression, what is?
6 caps and 1 goal at the age of 20 shouldn't be played down just because Wales were very poor before. The quality/standard of the welsh team is significantly higher now than before. Its why we have qualified for 2 major tournaments in recent times.

Doesn't start enough to get a good read. But he reads the game well, eye for a pass and can turn nothing into a dangerous attack from one pass.
He does have the ability. But he's a bit raw still. But lots of potential.

Colwill is better starting games than being a sub. Was woeful last night off the bench

He's one of our own we all want him to do well, but it looks like he needs to lose a few pounds, get fit and stop giving the ball away otherwise he won't get his chance to shine, he's gifted with the natural abilty, but does he have the mental strngth heart and desire needed, I hope so he really could be a Star

I'm absolutely with you, so no, it isn't only you! I think you've summed up my thoughts quite well there.
He did have a great game on Saturday (although not MotM for me) but it's like he tries way too hard to make an impact when he's on as a sub, to the point where I'm failing to remember any pass on target from Colwill last night.
I want him to do well, obviously, he's Cardiff through and through, but I'm not dismayed if his name isn't in the starting 11.
What really crunches my Quavers though is the bloody commentators insisting on calling him Colwell!

I'm also with you, I think he works really hard when he comes on as a sub, but less so when he starts.
he has improved! as he now chases the ball, previously i was quite disheartened as he seemed to wait for the ball to come to him. I don't understand the commentators saying how special he is, i agree he has promise, but he needs to commit 100 percent
ALL of the time. Maybe more games will help him improve and go on to show us just what he can do.

Hit nail on head.
Sorry to sound patronising to the lad, but to me he lacks any maturity for the game. He tries to do far too much with the ball. He'll beat one man and you're thinking that was great, then instead of playing the simple pass, he'll try to beat another or try to do something too cocky like a back heel and lose possession. I swear he beats himself more than because of the opposition
In his favour he does have that "spark" to make something different happen that many of the current team don't have. He needs to start, perhaps in a 10 role with the freedom to roam. Getting his arse in the box and make himself a nuisance or even better have a bloody dig at goal ffs.
I swear Watters is a clever fecker, instead of looking for space, intentionally positions himself in areas where he's unlikely to get the ball, but be intercepted by multiple defenders. Teammates then decline to pass to him. It's like playing with 10 men. Unless we get a target man in like Hugill, we'd be better off swamping the midfield and playing without a striker.

Needs to improve his pace and his backtracking when we're defending still needs to be improved.
He's by no means the finished article and people make him out to be better than he actually is.
He has good moments in games but also goes missing. Last night he offered nothing when he came on.
