STEVE MORISON: “IT MAKES ME LAUGH WHEN PEOPLE THINK WE ARE

Mon Aug 29, 2022 11:00 am

STEVE MORISON:

“IT MAKES ME LAUGH WHEN PEOPLE THINK WE ARE NOT LOOKING / WE WANT A CERTAIN TYPE OF PLAYER.”

"We are being choosy because we want a certain type of player," "But, also, we can only be as choosy as the market allows you to be. If there is no one there for you to go and get, which at the moment, there isn't, free or on loan...”

"Even you look at the market of trying to buy players. The fees being quoted for some of these players, we wouldn't have been able to have got them when we had that money.”

"It's a waiting game. It does make me laugh when people think we are not looking for players in certain areas of the pitch.”

“We are! We haven't just started looking by the way, we have been looking since the start of this whole process, it’s been seven months of looking.”We have missed out on a couple, but outside of that, there hasn't really been anyone who takes our fancy.”

"We will keep plugging away and see how we get on between now and Thursday."

The Bluebirds boss couldn't put a percentage on how confident he is that a new player would be signed before the window ends. However, he did admit that it could go right down to the wire.

"We are looking for one [signing], for definite," he added. "At the moment, it's none. When I'm saying that, people think I'm saying it flippantly and we aren't looking. If the deadline ended right now, that might have changed, because people are going to have to make decisions.”

"People might be waiting for the last minute themselves to decide whether they can get someone in before they let someone out."

There is a version of the next few days, though, in which Cardiff do not add to their squad and have to go with what they have.

Asked if he would be satisfied if that eventually transpired, Morison replied: "We will get on with the group we have, because that's what we have to do. We don't have a choice in that."

Sometimes I get the impression he's being smart or clever trying to impress

He needs to give some commitment

We'll definitely get someone in that's for sure

The Sala case will have influenced the type of player

Two decent striker we could be top 6

Otherwise it's mid table

Today he says he is not expecting any new striker and we will just have to get on with what we got if one doesn't come in!! I hope he is bluffing or we are in for a mundane plodding along kind of season with no prospect of challenging top half table more likely challenging the bottom half... :?

Steve Morison is in a no win situation no matter what he says...

If he says we are desperate to bring one or more strikers in but doesn't (not for his efforts) he'll be vilified

If he admits to the addition of said strikers being critical to the season and our ambitions, he'll be vilified

For me, saying he is monitoring the situation and will only add improvements or go with what we got is the logical response

Some people are queuing up on here to have a pop at SM, as they are with Watters. No wonder he chooses his words wisely... :ayatollah:

Totally agree. He says things as they are, doesn't make false promises or sugar coat his replies. I find that quite refreshing.

Chris, for me it's quite simple what hessaying and always has been.

He's looking and always has been looking but he's not going to bring anyone in just for the sake of it.
He's looking at the right player, right costs and the right personality as he has done with all his other new signings.

He's already getting vilified from some on here and that just proves what they know.

I personally like his style.

I have never really taken to SM and thought he was far too inexperienced with little pedigree to be given a championship club with 2 promotions in the last 10 years as his first first-team job, but i like what he has done so far.

I guess whatever players we are in for then so are other clubs with maybe more resources or chance of promotion and the bonuses that accompany being at the top of the league.

We have a solid group of midfielders and defenders that should see us through an arduous extended championship season. If we can't get what we need there is always Christmas or next season. The nucleus of the squad is ours, so next season we only need a few additions.

Hugill would improve us this season but what about next season or the season after that even the season after that? Should we not be looking for the next Callum Wilson, Shane Long, Lewis Grabban or Ivan Toney

I am with SM on this, it needs to fit.

I am quite happy with mid-table with the intent to play this season building for a push next season.

I notice that no one is now complaining about people calling for Morrison to be sacked as no one is able to produce a single positing actually calling for it. The tone has now changed for Morrison is being vilified for what he says. I would say that any criticism of Morrison is due to the fact that we are 14th in the table and haven’t scored for 3 games.

The problem is Morrisons acolytes completely over promised and under delivered as far as his man managerial skills are concerned.

Before the season started it was claimed that he had done a remarkable job on the transfer market and that we had practically an entire team that was comfortable in possession, could pass very well, and with a quick, interchangeable, young forward line we could well be taking the division by storm. It hasn’t turned out quite like that has it.

I’m not saying we may not well come good particularly if we get a good striker in, just that at the moment it’s not happening and the results are actually getting worse rather than better.

As for the vilification of Watters, do you think this might have anything to do with the fact that he has scored only 1 goals in 20 odd games and people are starting to wonder why we are playing a striker with that sort of goal scoring record.

Who is complaining about people calling for Morison to be sacked? I havnt read a single post either calling for him to be sacked or people complaing about those posters. Youre asking people to produce posts stating this claim yet you havnt actually produced any posts yourself of these people complaining about it.

Before the season started it was said we were largely an unknown outfit and that our season could go either way.

Morison cult, Morison loyalists, Morison acolytes.... anything else you want to call supporters who are behind their manager and team?

I have to agree, there has not been one post asking or saying to sack Morison.
Weird for this to be brought up with no substance.

I personally said between 10-12 games I would give my view on how he actually done.

At this moment, I can’t see how we can judge him yet, still early days.

Very early days. Definitely too early to predict how this season will go. But I've seen enough to say this squad is much better than last season and that the football is much better. We just need to be more clinical in front of goal. So based from that, I am happy with the direction the club is going.

I literally cannot understand any supporter who can’t be happy with the direction that the club is going.

From the atmosphere and feel on match days, to talking to fans and even the Bob bank seems louder to me.
We’ve stopped wasting millions on journeymen footballers and are paying sensible wages.

The football is so much better than previous seasons and it bolds well for the immediate future.

I can see no way we’re going to be in the top six but I said at the start that top half would suit me and I’ll be happy with that.

One transfer window and we’ve improved immeasurably so it’s certainly possible with another couple we can really push on next season.

I don't understand it either. Everything about this squad and the way we are being run, is better than last season. Massive turnover in players on a very limited budget. Can't fault the recruitment over the summer. Rome wasn't built in a day, I'd also be happy with decent season playing good football and build on that.

Unfortunately, I think there are people who were waiting for Morison to fail before the season even kicked off.
