‘ Rubin Colwill ‘

Mon Aug 29, 2022 7:40 am

Rubin Colwill got his first start of the season under his belt on Saturday and felt he and his team-mates deserved more from the 0-0 draw.

Colwill has been working his way back up to full fitness after a pre-season marred by injury.

Rubin Colwill:

“I think we played really well and dominated the game," Colwill said. "We had a lot of decent chances that we could’ve put away on another day and I think we’re really gutted to come away with a draw because we deserved to win.

"On a whole we played really well, but we’re just disappointed that we didn’t get the three points."

“We were in control for pretty much the whole game," Colwill continued. "It was us playing around the edge of their box, getting in and around the back to get crosses and shots away.

“They put a bit of pressure on us at the end, but I think that was more us pushing for a goal than Preston beating us on the pitch.

"They defended really well to be fair to them, and on another day it would’ve dropped to one of us in the box or we’d have a little deflection that would go in.

“The boys in our defence didn’t switch off throughout when we were up the pitch trying to score goals. They cleared everything up and started a lot of our attacking plays, so they deserve a lot of credit.

"I've had my first start of the season now, so it's just about recovery for the time being ahead of the next time out!”

He’s coming back from an injury he picked up in pre season that’s why he didn’t play any games for us before the season started, so he missed out on getting his fitness levels up so had to work from scratch again to get them back up to standard at the start of the season, getting closer now though after Preston game I’m sure.

This was why though he only made sub appearances the last few games, not because the manager dislikes him, I’m sure Steve morison is just trying to mould him to a better player for his teams style, it showed in the Preston game with his off the ball work, never would’ve seen that last season.

Injury = loss of pre-season training = lack of match fitness = delayed availability

It's not about his fitness as a 20-year old; more a case of very poor timing getting said (unsubstantiated) injury

But he's back now and going by Saturday's performance, going to have a positive impact... :ayatollah:

Have you seen the intensity of our high press? You cant do that effectively without the required level of fitness. He wouldn't have been training through his injury so, regardless of his age, he wouldn't have been at that level. Also, rushing someone back from injury runs the risk of getting injured again. We all want to see Colwill play but I think Morison has been pretty justified in bringing him back slowly. Him playing 80odd mins Saturday is a good sign though :bluescarf:

Was terrible today, kept giving the ball away, that is probably why Morison won't ueually let him start a game.
