MATCH THREAD: ‘ CARDIFF CITY v LUTON ‘ MATCH THREAD

Sun Aug 28, 2022 10:38 am

EFL at the CCS
Tuesday 30 August 2022 KO 19:45

Pay on the night for both sets of fans :bluebird:

Cardiff City: Allsop; Romeo, Ng, Kipre, Nkounkou; Wintle, Rinomhota, Ralls; Ojo, Watters, Harris.

Subs: Alnwick, Bagan, Simpson, Sawyers, Whyte, Colwill, Philogene.

Early team news: :bluebird:

Cardiff will welcome Joel Bagan back to the fray after being given the all clear following his head knock against Bristol City.

There is doubt over whether Callum O'Dowda will be fit, though, following a knock to his hip on the weekend. Steve Morison has said it's not a long-term injury, though and he will be back by the weekend at the latest.

Kion Etete is out after rolling his ankle for the under-21s last week against Sheffield United. Isaak Davies has also suffered a little setback to his knee injury, which you can read about here.

Ebou Adams is still missing, but Morison hopes to see the midfielder back training soon.

As for Luton, they will be unable to call upon Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Harry Cornick, who are ruled out with knee and leg injuries respectively.

CCFC TEAM NEWS:

Isaak Davies has had a set back a few more weeks out yet.

This will be a very tough game. I have a feeling Luton are starting to find their feet.

We are a better team than last year, and have our own strengths.

Im actually gping with a City win, where we will concede, but will score a double for the first time this season.

2-1

Sounds like he might be a sub by the latest morison interview, I hope he does ply though and morison is trying to make the opposition think he’s not going to ply because odowda has been the stand out man in the forwards so far!

Cardiff have won five of their last six league games against Luton, although they lost 1-0 in the most recent meeting in April.

Following a 1-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium in their last league meeting, Luton are looking to win consecutive league games against the Bluebirds for the first time since October 2005.

Cardiff City have won nine of their last 14 league matches played on Tuesdays (D3 L2) including each of their last two, at home to Coventry and Derby in 2022.

This is Luton Town’s 2,000th away match in the Football League, with their first a 1-1 draw at Leicester City back in September 1897. They’ve won 480, drawn 509 and lost 1,010 of their first 1,999.

Luton have won their last three away league games in Wales (two wins vs Swansea, one vs Cardiff). The Hatters have never won four in a row away from home in Wales in the Football League.

I'm hoping the tactics are keep it tight for first 60. Then bring the creativity on. Phil, Sawyers, Colwill and maybe even Whyte to end the game.

Luton have started the better of the two sides. A lot of set pieces making their way into Cardiff's box, the latest sees Nkounkou neatly intercept and knock it out of play.

Its all in Cardiff's half, all Luton

Re: MATCH THREAD: ‘ CARDIFF CITY v LUTON ‘ MATCH THREAD

Tue Aug 30, 2022 6:51 pm

Horvath finds a Luton head near the halfway line with his kick out, but the header is out of play for a Cardiff throw.

Sloppy Cardiff play gifts possession back to the visitors and they can recycle in Cardiff's half.

Jordan Clark with a rocket of a half-volley from 25 yards, Rinomhota deflects it out for a corner. All Luton at the minute.

Luton dominating, looks like they want to attack - complete opposite to Saturday when Preston were only interested in getting a point.

Re: MATCH THREAD: ‘ CARDIFF CITY v LUTON ‘ MATCH THREAD

Tue Aug 30, 2022 6:53 pm

Great, driving run from Rinomhota after being played in by Ojo and he is brought down by Bell on the corner of Luton's box. Ralls will whip it in.

Re: MATCH THREAD: ‘ CARDIFF CITY v LUTON ‘ MATCH THREAD

Tue Aug 30, 2022 6:54 pm

Ralls' free-kick is cut out by Bell at the near post and it appears to strike an arm. Loud calls from the home fans, but nothing doing.
