Not good reading that and at his age he should have at least proved himself.

Re: Max Watters this season:

Teemu Pukki this season

6 games
0 goals
1 assist

Joel Piroe this season

6 games
1 goal (a penalty)
0 assists

Dwight Gayle this season
7 games
0 goals
1 assist

Callum Robinson this season
6 games
0 goals
1 assist

I wonder if the fans of these players are on the backs of them as much as our fans are on the back of Watters. He is trying hard, he is improving each game from what I can see and the goals will come I am sure of that. We need other strikers yes, but he is the scapegoat whenever we don't win. And even when we do win our fans say "but still no goal for Watters". It's time to lay off him a bit, if he was lazy then fair enough but he isn't so get behind him I say.

Lad. Pukki had started 3 games, and made 2 substitute appearances. He hasn’t scored in the league yet and that’s why he hasn’t started every game.

Joel Piroe HAS scored in his 6 starts, plus had a good season with Swansea last season.

Callum Robinson has made 4 appearances OFF the bench. He hasn’t started a single game in the league.

Dwight Gayle at least has 1 assist but has been dropped to the bench twice. Started 5 of his 7 games, in this instance though yes the fans are frustrated with Gayle.

-

Do you see why you’re comparisons aren’t quite up to it? Especially the Callum Robinson comparison who’s not started a single game in the championship this season lol.. Max doesn’t have the luxury of having proven himself last season for us, as he only scored 1 goal off the bench. He’s had more bad performances than good, and this season he simply hasn’t been good enough. He’s had glorious chances to score. How are you defending him so much. No other striker who hasn’t scored has been afforded as many starts as him this season. THAT’S the problem the fans have. Rotate the team more, wether that means Etete before his injury, Harris, Ojo, Sawyers (who has played up front before), or even Crole.

He's defending him because he's our player and he's working his bollocks off and we'd all love him to succeed.

Will always defend a player who tries his best, even if that isn't good enough.

We all know we need an upgrade, but let's support the player whilst he's out there wearing our shirt.

Exactly this, thank you.

Watters does work hard no question on that but how long before the supporters start getting on his back during a game

There's more than a handful around me who have been on his back since we kicked off against Norwich.

Spot on Ian.

Watters job is to score goals and his history so far in the Championship is awful.

A lower league player for me.

Watters gives his all.

Fair play he works non stop but it’s not his fault he’s not a Championship player.

If we rely on Harris and Watters we will be bottom 5 come May and Morison knew over 8 months ago they both needed replacing.

Don’t think there is a it’s fan who wantsWatters to fail but his goal to game ratio is saying he’s league 1 or lower .
If he was playing at another club with this record, would we be looking to sign him..??
No way …
You can work hard and score goals btw…

Yes well said. Why some “supporters” continually have to hound players is beyond me. If the manager picks him, support him ffs.

Spot on.

We want Watters to do well, this is a fans forum and we should be allowed to say how we feel, not shot down.

No one wants him to fail , but we can’t afford to have strikers who don’t score and as you said would be after him with his current record?

18 appearances / 1 goal Championship

Hounding players would be fans abusing Watters at matches or booing him.
I hope that never happens.

This is a forum just saying how we feel, but some would rather us not be honest and lie and say yes great striker.

Re: Max Watters this season:

You're putting words in people's mouths now Annis. No one has asked you to lie or asked you to say Watters is a great striker.

The vast majority of supporters agree that an upgrade is required and I have no doubt that SM knows this too, so let's get behind the players on the pitch rather than attributing comments/opinions to other supporters that they haven't made.

Personally Watters reminds me a little of Lethal Lynex, couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo, but always had the backing of the fans, admittedly in Lynex's case coupled with a wry smile and a rueful shake of the head...

But your the one saying that we should be defending him because he is our player.

No one is calling him names etc

Fans are just saying he’s not good enough, are they allowed to say that????

No one saying not to get behind the players on the pitch either, on here we are just discussing how we feel players are playing and how over all we are playing.

I'm.not saying we should defend him, I'm saying we should support him.

Fans are of course allowed to say he's not good enough, I've said exactly the same.

What I do have an issue with is people questioning why Watters is being defended. Because he is wearing our shirt!

People were abusing him yesterday. Before the game even kicked off and then throughout the game.

Re: Max Watters this season:

There was a guy in the Family Stand with his kids who shouted "aaargh just f*&% off Max you are s&%*" when he had created that chance but hit it just over the bar in the first half. The guy was about 2 rows from the front. So sadly there are idiots giving him stick at games.

Re: Max Watters this season:

Mon Aug 29, 2022 6:59 am

Sadly there was a few so called fans by me who booed when his name was called out before the game kicked off. Pathetic but luckily the minority.

Re: Max Watters this season:

Mon Aug 29, 2022 7:05 am

NO one should boo a City player who is giving his all.

I could understand if it had been Tomlin

Re: Max Watters this season:

Mon Aug 29, 2022 9:57 pm

Watters isn't bad at making runs behind defenders which probably suits him more when we play away, as the opposition are more likely to play a higher defensive line. He just needs a bit of confidence and luck infront of goal.
