BREAKING STEVE MORISON: ‘ THURSDAY 25TH AUGUST 2022 ‘

Thu Aug 25, 2022 7:42 am

:bluebird: :bluebird: “ STEVE MORISON UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS “ :bluebird: :bluebird:

Thursday 25th August 2022

Cardiff play Preston at home this Saturday and after another local derby defeat and now City only scoring 3 goals in their last 6 competitive matches , manager Morison will want to see more from his strikers after publicly slating them this week.

Isaak Davies has trained now for the last 2 weeks.

Ready to start Colwill?

Maybe. Maybe not. Is anyone ever ready? He found the 60 mins tough. But he’s no different to anyone else in the team.

Morison

“We are very choosy who we want.”

STEVE MORISON:

Will you be up at 11pm on deadline day getting a deal done?

If I need to be then yes. But at the moment, no. I’ll be in bed.

Morison

Injuries

Just Joel. Seven days is the protocol for concussion, so Saturday comes too soon.

El King joins League 2 Crewe on loan till January.

Collins update

We won’t see him again until next season. Gutting for the lad. Really gutting. We are all here for him. We are going to make the next year the best it can possibly be for him.

It’s the worst case scenario. We will try and get him back for pre-season next year. We will have one hell of a left back next season. It’s his ACL.

LB a problem now?

Yeah, but it’s fine. Let’s hope whoever plays here we don’t lose in the first 10 minutes of the game! If the game was Sunday Joel would have played, but hopefully he’ll be fine.

Depth - Able to cope?

That was the plan at the start of the season, to have that depth. We’ll adjust and we’ll cope. As of Sunday, Joel was back available. So it’s just coping for one game.

Not something you’re looking to sort in the window?

Nothing coming in at the moment. A lot can happen between now and the end of the window in all areas of the pitch. So if people go out and it’s detrimental to the squad but it’s the right thing to do and we need to bring someone in then we’ll play that balancing act too.

STEVE MORISON:

'I'm fed up of defending you!'

Steve Morison's stinging message to misfiring Cardiff City's strikers after Bristol City defeat

What did I say to them?

“ I told them today 'I'm fed up of defending you, you've got to put the ball in the back of the net. That's your job. You get your moments, you have to put the ball in the back of the net'," Morison said of his strikers.

"You have to keep plugging away. You have to keep believing and be confident. Just keep putting yourselves in the areas and take the chances. It's all about a mindset.

"I don't want to talk about myself because I had my mind and I can't tell you what they're thinking. I can only try and help them take those chances."

Morison has four strikers, one whom is unfit at the minute in Isaak Davies, all of whom are 24 or under and have fewer than 10 Championship goals between them all in their careers.

When asked if the strikers he does have at his disposal have what it takes to get the requisite goals this season, he replied:

“We don't know yet. They haven't done it. But it's what we've got. There's no one else there at the minute. There's no one else available that can come and do it either.”

STEVE MORISON:

Only one in?

If something comes up. Eli King’s gone now. If someone chucks me a central midfielder that will revolutionise us and improve us, and the board back us, then we’d be stupid not to do it. I know what you’re alluding to ‘is there a striker coming through the door?’ No. Not at this current moment. But there’s not really anything for me to tell you on that. We’re just fishing around for me to say we need a striker.

Is there a manager in the football world that isn’t looking for, for example, a centre-forward? Every team is having the same conversation. Everyone’s press is asking the same question and every team is giving the same answer. It is what it is. It’s always going to be a topic of debate and it’s usually on the back of not scoring a goal.

There’s not a team in this league that’s not looking for a Mitrovic.

STEVE MORISON:

Hugill - often mentioned?

I’ve not had any phone call to say ‘want to take him. He was great for us last year. He played well and scored the other night. It’s amazing because after the first game of the season no one was worried about it. Or Birmingham. Everyone needs to stop being so reactive in this world and find a base of consistency and level-headedness and patience and realise that there’s another game on Saturday. Hopefully at the end of next Saturday when we’re sitting there after the Millwall game our conversations are different and more about football not personnel.“

STEVE MORISON:

Week to go before deadline day - What would you like in?

Someone who is going to improve the squad. That’s what we’ve been trying to do since the last day of last season and working on all of pre-season. It’s what we’ve been working on since we started. Anyone who comes through the door is to improve the squad. As things stand, there’s nothing happening. But if there’s something that becomes available, we’re ready to act.

STEVE MORISON:

Always have a smile when talking about Colwill - need to see more from him?

He’s a hugely talented boy. I smile when I go on the defensive on him because I’m trying to protect him. Unfortunately, you guys put too much pressure on him. He’s no different to other players in the squad. Everyone’s treated the same. He has to tick boxes to come back. If I just put him in two weeks ago when he’s just come back and he broke down that’s on me. He has to be managed correctly.

As much as you want that maverick, he might lose the ball and you’ve got a counter-attack on your hands. It’s about the team. I’ll never make a decision based on external opinions. It’s always about what’s best for the team.

There’s always a conversation. He’s not just left out. It’s a squad game and everyone has to be involved. Only a few will play every game. Ultimately, he’ll want to play every game, but so will anyone else. It’s just about what’s right for the players. Controlling the situation and making him the best player he can be.

STEVE MORISON:

Being choosy?

We’re very choosy over what we want. It would be stupid not to. But there’s only a select list to choose from. Even in that list, we see all your stuff that you put out and it interests me because when it’s put out it feels like we’re not looking at those players, but we are. And they’re not available. So we need to stop talking about them. That’s just the reality.

If someone does become available, it might be at the end of all this. At the moment, anyone who’s been mentioned or spoken about just isn’t available. Or even to us.

Burnley make Archer 'top target'

Reports have suggested that Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has identified Cameron Archer as his top transfer target this summer., Not Isaak Davies ( 28 appearances/ 2 goals for the Bluebirds ).

Preston's potential injury boost:

Preston North End could be boosted by the return of Alvaro Fernandez at Cardiff City this weekend, but Ryan Lowe says the teenager will not be rushed back.

After making two assists in the Carabao Cup two weeks ago at Huddersfield, the on-loan Manchester United man was forced off at half-time with a knock to the ankle, and has missed four games since.

However, he could now be in line for a return in south Wales, with Sean Maguire and Bambo Diaby both going well after their respective injuries too.

"Bambo is back on the grass and Alvaro is back on the grass, which is good," said Lowe. "Those two will join in with parts of training today. Seani definitely is - he has been with us - but Hughesy won't be on the grass today. At the moment, touch wood, the treatment room is empty.

"Providing that they all come through today then they potentially come into contention. But, there is no real rush with any of them is there? We've got a squad and we've got good depth within the squad, so I wouldn't really push it. Alvaro might make it; we will have to have a discussion after training and see how he reacts. Seani could potentially make it as well but we have a squad, so we'll see how they all go today and tomorrow and then take it from there."

Eli King joins League 2 Crewe on loan

King 20 years old in a few months, very shocked he has been loaned out as should be good enough by now, as was hailed a great player.

Loan | @Eli8King has today joined @crewealexfc on a temporary deal until January 1st, 2023.

All the best, Eli!

My question is what’s happened to all these so called quality players we had coming through???

Steve Morison last season:

"I’ve been excited about Eli King since I first walked through the door. He is an excellent player," Morison said. "He has had a few knocks, but he has really found himself in terms of his size, attributes and quality he has, he will be a big asset to the team.”

King gone to Crewe - happy?

It’s great. Great for us as a football club. He’ll go and apply and learn his trade at Crewe. They play in a similar style to how we like to do so he’s not just gone anywhere. He’s got to go and learn in the fire down in League Two. It’ll be great for him. All the things we think he needs to work on and get better at, he gets to do on a Saturday with three points on the line.

Re: BREAKING STEVE MORISON: ‘ THURSDAY 25TH AUGUST 2022 ‘

You said there might be one right at the end…

Some of the people we’ve looked at and spoken to have gone to other clubs now. Not because of any other reason that they have three or four options and they picked that club. Same as we’ve got players in the window that picked us over other teams.

Obviously the people who are going to cost upwards of 4,5 or 6m aren't in our league. Free transfer market, pretty feel like we’ve exhausted as much as we can.

Loans is that one now, isn’t it? If we take it, it’s likely going to be an untried and untested younger player. If you get an older player it’s got to be the right player because you don’t want someone who’s just got nothing else to do and can’t get any other club, can’t play at their parent club, so they just want to join here and have a free hit for the season.

It’s something we’re always looking at but it has to be right. There’s no point in doing all this work we’ve done and then do something that isn’t right for the football club.

Meanwhile, Morison says injured duo Ebou Adams and Isaak Davies won't be available any time soon.

Adams suffered a nasty injury in pre-season, while Davies has been out for some time after missing the entire summer schedule.
