Steve Morison: “On a new striker coming in?”

Mon Aug 22, 2022 9:11 am

Steve Morison was asked any news on a new striker after searching for over seven months ?

STEVE MORISON:

"Nothing, not a thing. Not for the want of trying or backing above. Like I've said to everyone who has asked me so far, I can't magic someone out of thin air," Morison said when asked about a striker search.

"What won't be happening is I won't be getting in a 32, 33, 34-year-old centre-forward just because it appeases everyone. It has to be the right player. Someone who will take us forward and help us progress.”

"If that person doesn't arrive then people better back the people who are here because that's all we can do.”

"Someone is going to have to become available for it to be possible. Because there are absolutely zero names, because everyone wants to talk about it, but no one has got a name or are bringing anything to the table!”

"The recruitment team are working hard on it. But at the minute there is no one. There is no one there. I bet no one in here can give me a name. I'm not asking that to be funny. I'm being serious, everyone is saying to get someone...

"Everyone has been brilliant. If there is someone on a free who hasn't had a club, they have missed 12 weeks of the season (and pre-season). It'll take them 12 weeks until they are up and running. But even then, there is no one who has jumped off the page."

When asked about bringing in a loan striker, Morison replied: "Possibly. The loan window goes further. But that might not happen and at the minute we have got to back the people we have got.

"If we get a loan player it'll ultimately be a young player who has never scored a goal in the Championship maybe. So it's between a rock and a hard place at the minute.

"So we keep grinding away and I keep backing the players we've got. We are getting chances for them, let's hope they start putting the ball in the back of the net."

Sadly, if you want a decent proven striker at this level, it’s going to cost.

I can genuinely see this going to the wire and wouldn’t be surprised at all if we get 2 good strikers in maybe on the last day of the transfer window.

We'll at least SM has made it clear we're not going after a Fowler or a Lambert, which is refreshing.

Yes, it may be a wait but hopefully we’ll get the right sort of player(s) in.

Sorry, I don't get this theory being offered by SM et al. There must be a dozen or more fringe PL strikers whose manager would love to loan them out to get some playing time. It's not like we're humping the ball upfield at every opportunity.

All depends on what % of wages we are willing to pay. No doubt even the fringe players in the PL are on a fair amount. Hopefully some become available in our price range towards the end of the window :ayatollah:

He can still do a job, I think he will be way down the list if he fails to get any of his top five!

Still on the list as he's not 32+ as he said 'I won't be getting in a 32, 33, 34-year-old centre-forward just because it appeases everyone'.

Any decent 35+ players available?

Read the quote again.

Seemed to make a point about it being “32,33 or 34” not 30+.

At the end of the day it’s his job on the line - I admire his bravery.

My statement was a bit tongue in cheek.

He's right, he can't magic someone out of thin air like people seem to think. I'm sure he has targets & he's trying to get the right sort of player for what he's trying to achieve but at the end of the day there's no guarantee that any of the players he is looking at want to come to Cardiff. `

Even if he had an unlimited amount of money it wouldn't matter if the players he's trying to get don't want to come anywhere near us. It's not like sitting in your bedroom on your playstation or popping into Tesco for a can of beans like some here seem to think it is.

What this ain’t is fantasy league or championship manager (the game. Not him as that’s literally his job!!)

Every single team is In for a top striker that costs as much as an average right back. We know there aren’t many around so until we can find one…. Who wants to come. we have to make do.

If we don' t get a few strikers in our season will disintegrate and will be a bloody big shame after morrison hard work and the board should be pushing the boat on this
morrison has scraped a team together but need some icing on the cake to make it a crowd pulling season
