The 1980'S

Fri Sep 24, 2010 11:17 am

Anyone watch that program on last night about the 1980's with Andrew Davies?

I can remeber all the news programs about riots kicking off everywhere.

My question is, what was it like watching football in those days? From watching the show last night, it didn't take much to get a riot going, was it the same on the terraces?

Watching football in the 80,s was like one eye on the game, the other looking at opposing fans just to see what they were throwing at you, got hit by a Golf ball once, didnt realise how f***ing hard those things were !!! :old: :old: :old:

I watched most of my football in London in the 1980s. It used to be mental at certain games, usually some of, but not all, the London derbies and usually involving Man United, Leeds and, to a lesser extent, Liverpool. One of the worst games I went to was Tottenham v Everton in 1985. I was at The Den in 1985 when Leeds went there and that was just all out war. Things got better from the mid 80s onwards because of Heysel, really, and the dawn raids and court cases. But, certainly, the 80s was my favourite period of watching football

The 70s were much better, pitch invasion at any opportunity and the worse that happened to anyone was a fine for a section 5 breach of the peace, tho someone i know was jailed for two weeks for something i didnt do agains stoke in '78 or '79.

Everyone was game, the players kicked lumps out of each other, the chants were all violent and if there were no away fans we'd happily kick shite out of each other on the grange end....plus it was easy to climb over the wall and we had train specials....but fighting in platform shoes was a bit of a problem.....then the skinheads came back :ayatollah:

and there's a lot more..............................

With all the planned job cuts and the youth unable to get work, do you think we could ever go back to those seen in central London?

The 70s and early 80s were the best football days by far, plus people were,nt affraid to hit the streets when things were,nt right for the working class,i cant see the youth of today having the bottle to stand up for themselves, football was fun in those days, home and away.

think its a bit unfair on the youth of today mike
the the 80's it was the in thing to be a lefty/socialist student and they used to turn up in their thousends to potest agianst almost anything
the miners/print workers were fighting for their jobs entire industries were being wiped out
and everyone had a common enemy...thatcher
i do think when all these cut backs kick in there is going to be a huge backlash
