A forum for all things Cardiff City

I got off to a good start by finding a car park next to the ground and reasonable priced at £7.
I had to go and get my ticket from their ticket office and as I walk to it there were quiet a few Cardiff there already. Walking through them it felt like there was not a worry amongst any of us. Speaking to a couple before the game they felt this would be a test BUT no one was worried about it as WBA had not done much yet. Some believe they had problems themselves and were not up to much good. They were proved right.
The Cardiff fans were in good voice at KO as we defended the goal in front of us. Where I stood the boisterous Albion fans were to my left but I could not see them. The ones I could see, to my right, were boring so nothing exciting to report about them.
As expected WBA came at us from the start but for me I felt we handled them quite easily. We lost Collins early which you would think would make it easier for the WBA but there was no change in the level of threat from that. The only issue that happened as we got into the game was us playing it out from the back. it look like we were pushing our luck and on a couple of occasions gave the ball away too close to our goal area. Fortunately we got away with it because WBA were playing crap and did not improve much all game. Even so there were a number of us having minor heart attacks. As we approached HT Ryan Allsop went long with a goal kick. I'm pretty sure he did that as he must have felt the nervous feeling coming from us away fans. We needed a break from it.
It must have been half way through the halve when we finally had a bit of possession in the WBA half. We did look like a team that will be a good counter attacking side at such difficult grounds like the Hawthorns. Only problem is any side could be like that against such a WBA side. They look like the big boys starring into a set of high beam car lights. If they continue this way they will be in a relegation fight.
During the interval it felt to me a few of us were not too sure about playing this out of the back. We are not use to it and felt we got away with some big mistakes. It made for a nervous send 45 minutes.
So we attacked the goal we were behind for the 2nd half. We started well I felt but only managed one shot on goal that went wide. I watched out for Watters and his runs but they never materialised. The WBA was quite solid at the back with the ex Cardiff Ajayi controlling everything. Watters was relegated to holding up the ball which he did well. He got subbed after 70 minutes and I please to say he got a good reception from us where he was asked to do the Ayatollah.
it was an even 2nd half where all our guys were putting in a shift. Neither team was going to score with the WBA coming the closest at the end where Allsop made a good save from a header that was going into the low of his left. Our substitutions gave us nothing and neither did WBA subs give them anything. If anything WBA got worse. At the final whistle it was us Cardiff that were applauding not those boring home supporters to my right.
So as the players came over to clap us it was good to see them join in with us as we sang "Everyone do the Ayatollah". More of this and it could be a good season for us.

I agree with you about playing out from the back as they were really putting pressure on us and could have scored.
I’d say mix it up a bit to keep the opponent on their toes.

People are going to have to get used to us playing it out from the back. It might cost us goals/points at times but it's the way morison wants us to play and it's already significantly better than the hoofball we've played the last few years. It's not something you can do half heartedly. If we are going to master it we can't shit our pants everytime there's a bit of pressure. This starting 11 have played 4 competitive games together. It's still a work in progress and hopefully things can only get better.
