MY VIEW / OPINION: CARDIFF WERE ON THE BACK FOOT FOR MOST

Wed Aug 17, 2022 8:54 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

CARDIFF WERE ON THE BACK FOOT FOR MOST OF THE FIRST-HALF, BUT SOME HOW KEPT ALBION OUT & IN THE 2ND -HALF MATCHED THEM TO EARN A GOOD AWAY POINT :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

So WBA stay winless so far this season.

Cardiff goalie Allsop My man of the match :bluebird: :bluebird:

Thats 3 games out of 4 Cardiff have kept clean sheets :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Steve Morison made 3 changes for City, with Jack Simpson, Joe_Ralls and Oji coming into the eleven!

With Cedric Kipre unable to play, and O'Dowda and Sawyers dropped to the bench tonight.

Wallace for WBA was allover Cardiff, quality player.
Allsop making some good saves.

City can be happy with that result, a good away draw :bluebird: :bluebird:

FIRST-HALF: For over 30mins it was backs to the wall for City as Albion dominated. Allsop made numerous saves as Wallace tore City apart, but in the later stages City created a couple of chances and went in at H-T knowing they were still in the game.
it looked like City set up to defend and Watters was virtually non existent upfront. The last few mins City created a couple of chances.

SECOND-HALF: City matched Albion for long stages.Morison did a 64th min:Double sub. Watters off, Etete on. Ralls off, Sawyers on.

75th min: Ojo off, Colwill on. Philogene off, Harris on. Evens for me over all in the 2nd-half :bluebird:

WBA 0 CARDIFF CITY 0 :bluebird: :bluebird:
H-T 0-0
Crowd
Away Support: 1,742 Cardiff fans

Cardiff City: Allsop; Romeo, Ng, Simpson, Collins; Wintle, Rinomhota, Ralls; Ojo, Watters, Philogene.

Subs: Alnwick, Denham, Sawyers, O'Dowda, Etete, Harris, Colwill.

After just 7mins Collins went off injured, looked nasty, O'Dowda replaced him.
O'Dowda did a brilliant job :bluebird: :bluebird:

Some great save by Allsop, as West Brom push forward again & again.

Wallace causing problems non stop, NG clearing a certain goal.

Albion outplayed City for long intervals.

The last few mins City created a couple of chances.

City will be happy with 0-0 :bluebird:

H-T 0-0 :bluebird:

Ojo was booked in first-half.

Ng booked. Heavy tackle on Grant.

64th min:Double sub. Watters off, Etete on.
Ralls off, Sawyers on.

68th min: Albion subs.

Wallace off, Phillips on.

Swift off, Robinson on.

75th min:

Ojo off, Colwill on.

Philogene off, Harris on.

Dying mins Allsop saved Cardiff again.

It’s a wonderful result.

Can I just sat Allsopp is a proper keeper

A point away from home when we've our backs against the wall for long periods is a very good point and it's these points that make the difference towards the end of the season. Tonight was very much a possitive.

Possibly the best result so far this season and without our first choice centre back.

A win against the Wurzels and things are looking up.

How can it be better than the wins?

Great point away from home against a strong team. A game of very little chances. I thought Perry Ng had his best game in a Cardiff shirt tonight, and fair play to Simpson on his debut with little game time done well apart from a few misplaced passes. Our defence has looked solid every game apart from Reading and 3 clean sheets out of 4 is a great return.

I thought Ralls struggled to get into the game at all, which was then followed by Sawyers who initially I thought could swing the game in our favour but struggled more so than Ralls. I’m not a fan of Ojo but he had a decent game although his decision making at times is not the best.

Happy with the clean sheet, but still not enough up front.
Can't have too many complaints though after 4 games including Norwich and WBA.

I had forgotten that Harris was even on the pitch he did that little.

Our problem seems to be the final ball sailing over or away from the forwards after we have messed around with it outside the area instead of getting it in the box fast enough and giving them time to regroup.

Harris and Watters for me are NO benefit at all to our team.

Any point away from home is a good point but the performance shows we are going to be a tough team to beat. We had few chances in that game but if Philogene had been awake to Ojo being in acres of space that point could have been 3.

I disagree about Watters, he was holding the ball up well but fully agree about Harris, he's just a headless chicken. You said to give Watters a run of games which I would agree with before giving up on him. Etete was having the same problems with that last pass going astray & not reaching him, at least he seemed very frustrated with it & let everyone know.

Goals will decide if Watters is good enough to be a Championship player and so far 15 appearances / 1 goal
4 starts this season / 0 goals
Plus his past says nothing and he is 23 yrs old.
I really hope he proves me wrong.

As to Harris , well I can’t believe he still plays for us???

I did say possibly. Norwich win was great but a point away from home against a team most people would say will be at least in the top 6 this season and has spent serious money cannot be underestimated.

Kipre not available, Collins off within 10 mins, this was a serious result.

I agree. People keep saying give Watters more time but he’s scored 1 goal in 19 games. As you say, he’s also 23 so I’m not sure how much better he will get.

Etete is much less experienced and we may be better off giving him more games because at least he is a youngster and he can, and should, improve.

Just praying that the Collins injury isn’t that bad. We’ve been so unlucky already losing Adams so it would be cruel to lose Collins for a long stint as well

The back 4 (O'Dowda included), Allsop and Wintle were excellent. Ojo the only forward with pass marks. I thought we played the better football tonight and I love watching us play the right way.....but

Zero shots on target. Watters invisible again and when Etete came on he looked knackered after 5 minutes!

Happy with a draw but we need a goalscorer ASAP. I'd give Colwill a go up top against Bristol.

Great defensive display for a point. We also have a very talented and hard working midfield who seem able to create chances, however they only have one up front to create chances for. We must play 2 up front to allow them options when looking for a front man.
Can't see us scoring 2 goals in a game unless this changes.

For me time is running out fast for Watters. Morison was going to move him out, but with no money for a decent striker he has been left with him.

As to Etete he will def need a good run of games to see what he is like.

1. WBA came out of the traps fast
2. Collins injury rocked us for about 20 minutes
3. Ojo kicked all over the shop
4. Livermore should have had 2nd yellow... easy
5. We worked hard
6. WBA are a good side and this is a good point
7. There will be times when our playing out from the back WILL cost us a goal and/or a game
8. Etete just looks knackered
9. Ralls off the pace. It appears true, he cant really play WITH Wintle
10. Get well soon Jamilu.

I enjoyed that. We played our game where we could, but their keeper didnt have a save to make all night. We fashioned not even half a chance, but I'd have taken a 0-0 all day long!

There were far more positives last night than negatives. Ojo I thought looked dangerous but a couple of times took on the extra man when watters had made the run. I suppose that's his game and if he can carry on like he did last night then he will be a mischief. Agree with the comments regarding Wintle and Ralls doesn't look has good with the pair of them together.
Not sure about Watters but on last nights game I thought he worked hard but didn't get great service.
O'Dowda looks our best signing by a country mile at present. A good nil nil

i will probably get slated for this,

i thought we played some lovely football last night, but i thought our decision making was very poor at times. 2 examples, Ojo in the second half took the ball wide, and had space to run into, instead he stopped, turned and passed the ball back, i don't know wether he was just tired but thought he should of gone on a run. O'Dowda was brillaint, thought if we were to score it would come from him, and he was playing left back i thought after 60 minutes, Morison would of taken off Philogene for a defender, and put O'Dowda into wing. Ralls was a bit off the pace tonight. and i felt Etete offered less than Watters, i don't think Watters is good enough but he run his socks off, we should of looked to release him a few times, and use his pace against a nervy looking defence but we never did. when Etete came on, he wasn't very mobile, slowly jogging around and looked tired, so hopefully he's just not match sharp. Didn't think Colwell should be playing on the wing, he comes inside too much and doesn't have the pace to play wing, and he kept trying fancy passes instead of playing the simple ball.

probably sounds really negative but i thought NG was a rock in defence last night, he was everywhere, cleaning up and had a solid performance, i think playing alongside Kipre this season is going to do him wonders and we might have a few clubs come sniffing in january if he continues to play like that.

a big issue we had last season was the team that played on a saturday weren't fit enough to play on the tuesday, we're only a few games in so i am hoping its just tired legs early on, but looking at how high we press which is lovely to see, the squad are much fitter this season

Sounds sensible enough for me even if people disagree.

I hope fans are generally patient as we can all see what we are trying to do. We played good fooball in patches, but trying to overplay almost cost us a couple of times too. Eventually this season we will concede a soft goal from trying to play out from the back and it'll look horrendous.
