Apparently wasn't in the squad against Birmingham due to injury and not poor performance

Curtis Nelson in contention for starting spot vs WBA

New Cardiff City signing Jack Simpson is still not ready to start for his new club, meaning the options to replace Cedric Kipre for Wednesday night's game against West Brom appear to have narrowed significantly.

The centre-back joined on a permanent deal from Rangers last week, however Morison said last week that he was not ready to play a full 90 minutes.

City at the weekend, though, which might have pointed to his fitness levels being higher than initially anticipated. However, Morison halted that train of thought.

STEVE MORISON;

"Nothing has changed," Morison said of the ex-Rangers man. "He hasn't played a game. It would be a big decision if we decide to play him.

"He hasn't played a game in pre-season. He hasn't miraculously got a game under his belt. So he is in the same situation."

Cardiff's best defensive performances have come when Kipre and Perry Ng have started alongside each other. In the two games in which they have started as a centre-back pairing, Cardiff are yet to conceded a goal.

"It's just the way it goes. We will just have to deal with it," Morison added. "It's why you have the squad and you expect people to step up.

"Hopefully, whoever I select will step up and continue that good form that we have had in the couple of good games."

Curtis Nelson was pulled out of the squad for the clash with Birmingham City at the weekend after two poor performances in the two previous games against Reading and Portsmouth.

However, Morison confirmed that was because of an injury issue, rather than him being jettisoned from the squad. "He just had a little niggle. It wasn't worth the risk because we had brought Jack in, so we didn't have to take an unnecessary risk."

Nelson, though, is in contention for the trip to The Hawthorns.

One player who won't be available for selection is Isaak Davies. The youngster is still some way off full fitness, with Morison adding: "He is going to be a few weeks away. He has got a lot of boxes to tick before he is anywhere near a football pitch."

Nelson is a liability. A half fit Simpson would be my preferred choice, or Denham.

Sadly, once your in a rut form wise it takes a long time to get out of it.

Hopefully keeping him fit in the hope we get some interest in another club.
