Glen Williams: Find it odd Paul Ince, John Eustace & Troy De

Tue Aug 16, 2022 10:27 am

I actually agree with Glen we have spent peanuts, with once again a drastically reduced wage bill for the 4th year runnin.

GLEN WILLIAMS ( Media Wales ) :

Find it odd Paul Ince, John Eustace & Troy Deeney have all said "Cardiff have spent a lot of money".

12 free agents, 2 loans and 1 fee (£500k) paid by my count. Plus a drastically reduced wage bill.

Maybe it's in relation to their own situation to put pressure on their boards?

Yeh sounds like excuses to their own fans too.

These signings won't of come that cheap ,loan fees ,agent fees ,signing on fees ,wages , hardly peanuts

WES I find it astonishing that lots of people think free agents dont cost clubs any money while in reality they can cost more than paying a fee to a club for a player? Rambo got paid millions for being a free agent just to sign for juve... yes it generally saves clubs money but certainly not free despite the title "free agent"...

They should rename them ‘Agents free to discuss their own signing on fees’.

Signing on fees that are paid too players also attracts NI contribution at 13% for the club as well So a £500k transfer fee overall cost less than a £500k signing on fee
Lots of signing on fees are spread over the term of the contract That’s why Ramsey was on such a large salary at Juve

The signings obviously aren’t free. But we would have had to stump up similar amounts plus a transfer fee were they not unattached.

Ince etc had just as the same people to approach as we did. Maybe we offered slightly more. But it’s hardly splashing the cash. We needed a completely new team. Of course we had to spend something. The team and players aren’t a charity.

Well we received exactly in total £3.8mill for Kieffer Moore / all paid now by Bournemouth, so the players that came were all covered, yet sadly NO main striker anymore, the difference in for me us taring teams apart or having to rely on midfield virtually every game.

Lets hope the midfield can continue their magic :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Yes nothing is free when signing a player that is for sure

I don't think anyone is arguing that frees don't cost anything. But they're almost always cheaper than the alternatives. In our case, our ex players on huge wages or signing players with a fee.

What would be a more accurate thing to say is... Cardiff city have been busy in the transfer window.

That money covers one year of Smithies and Murphys wages last season ,in the grand scheme of things not a lot of money sadly but still a profit on what we paid for him .
