CCFC in Champions League???

Sun Aug 07, 2022 3:28 am

Or Swansea, Wrexham, Newport, Merthyr for that matter.

Been digging around in League formats across the world and just noticed that CF Montreal are representing Canada in the CONCACAF equivalent of the UEFA champions League.

This is despite them plying their trade in the USA MLS.

It would seem that there is a Canada Championship in a cup format and includes Canadian teams from the MLS and from the Canadian Premier League.

The competition only takes a few games to produce a winner so does not excessively increase the season.

How is this not an option for the Welsh Clubs in the English pyramid system?

I know we would not want it to affect our position in the English League but it is used in Canada to increase the coefficient of the Canadian League.

Sorry, couldn't sleep. Also tired so could be wrong if someone wants to check.

Probably more yo fact mls canadiene league relevently new and able to approach fifa or whoever to cover such things ... we've been involved in English football league even before UEFA ect were formed.... no club will want to put that in jeopardy? There are countries who would jump at chance to disband home nations as well

The Canadian Clubs in the MLS can finish bottom of the leafue and STILL play Champions League representing Canada.

How is this allowed? I understand that they cannot represent the MLS should they finish top 4 but it is still a benefit that is not allowed elsewhere.

We could give up our rights to represent England in Europe yet still play in their league.

Just cannot see how it is allowed in North America but nowhere else. The Canadian MLS clubs get their cake and eat it.

As did we with the Welsh cup until the rules were changed.

There are various quirks around world regarding clubs in another league outside their own country Canada and mls is just one of them... what cannot do is qualify via 2 competitions in different countries? Hence not in welsh cup
