Wed Jul 27, 2022 4:05 pm

Cardiff City FC’s squad numbers have been confirmed for the upcoming Sky Bet Championship season, with Joe Ralls named as Club Captain.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=144783

The long-serving midfielder, who put pen to paper on a new two-year deal in the Welsh capital earlier this summer, takes on the armband from Sean Morrison, who continues his rehabilitation from injury with the Bluebirds.

Ryan Allsop takes the number 1 jersey, with Sheyi Ojo and Callum O’Dowda taking 10 and 11 respectively. Romaine Sawyers will wear his preferred number 19, while newest recruit Jaden Philogene takes 25.

Mark McGuinness moves from 2 to 5, with Ryan Wintle changing from 15 to 6. Tom Sang is our new number 12, while Ollie Denham switches from 42 to 15.

Elsewhere, Eli King moves from 32 to 24, with Rohan Luthra switching from 43 to 28.

The Club has taken the opportunity at this juncture to officially retire the Number 7 shirt in honour of Peter Whittingham.

And no 4. Moz?

Good move for retiring Whitts' shirt too.

Excellent move with the number 7.

We all know Whitts is an absolute legend. Shame it went so wrong with bacuna as a player and holding the shirt.

At least now we can give it the respect it deserves.

Why Rolls as captain. Surley a player not subject to injury would be far better. Must have been a sweetener to get him to sign another contract. Wintle has more about him Ralls not a leader on the pitch that's when he is playing. Hope I'm wrong but a bad decision as far as im concerned.

Retired no7 is no less than Whitts deserves.
Nice to see no4 also spare maybe for Sean Morrison who will only bring a wealth of experience and leadership if he can get fit.
Of course no9 we are all hoping for an extra striker! Keinan Davis would be OK maybe!

28 in Squad! I thought only 25 could be registered in Championship squads? If so 4 to go before we sign a striker?

25 in squad, 8 being home grown. Under 21s don’t count and are eligible to play without being part of the 25 man squad.

Whitts will always be a legend. I read the press release this afternoon and had a little thought about how fragile life is and how we all take it for granted.

Thank god the club is getting its act together.....

If ralls is captain that means he will always play if fit.

Exactly. I said this in another thread a few weeks back when he signed the new contract. If he’s fit, he plays. That means a midfield of Rino, Wintle and Sawyers won’t happen if he’s fit unfortunately. Hope I’m wrong because that’s our strongest midfield 3 in my opinion.

I understood he was club captain which doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the team captain.

If he is then he by no means is guaranteed a starting place every single game if fit.

Do you really think if he’s playing badly or has a run of games where he’s useless that Morison will still pick him? Just because of an armband?

I can’t speak for our new midfielders as I’ve not seen them play but I think Ralls is very decent at this level.

The fuss SM made about Ralls signing a new contract was enough to tell me he wants him starting games. I’m sure he said it was massive that Ralls signed a new contract. I could be wrong, I hope I am. If he is club captain and not team captain though, that’s my mistake. I’m not saying Ralls isn’t capable but I do prefer Wintle and Rino over him.

Fair comment as I haven’t seen the others play yet.

But I think the fuss over Ralls signing the new contract was 100% justified for Morison. It was massive. Morison knows him and knows what he can bring to the team on and off the field.
Ralls his hugely experienced, a solid player at championship level and obviously loves the club.

My point was that even if he’s captain it doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to start every game.

I’m putting my trust in the manager at the moment as he knows better than us. With 5 substitutes allowed it’s going to be a squad game this season more than ever.

The only reason ralls finally signed was nobody came in for him.
