Ellis Simms going to Sunderland

Wed Jul 27, 2022 12:52 pm

SUNDERLAND will attempt to wrap up a deal for Ellis Simms in the next 24 hours after the Everton striker expressed a preference for a move to the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats’ search for a new forward finally appears to have achieved a breakthrough, with Simms having indicated a desire to join the Black Cats on a season-long loan rather than re-join Blackpool or Hearts, where he has previous successful loan spells.

The 21-year-old joined Everton’s academy at the age of 16, having previously spent time in the youth set-up at Manchester City and Blackburn, and spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Blackpool, scoring an impressive ten goals in 24 appearances in all competitions.

This is a great pity. He is a really good player and could have been the missing piece of the jigsaw in my opinion.

I'm disappointed, if this is correct, as I know he was high on our list (and mentioned it way back)

I may be wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was the perceived 'done deal' that was talked about (again) last week?

Hopefully, I am wrong, as I still feel we are a player short up top right now; but I trust in what Steve Morison is putting together :ayatollah:

I am afraid we are going to be pipped at the post for strikers if we cannot match others who will snap the good strikers with better pay unfortunatly and the rest will be bargain basement
everyone is out for the best deal.

Pure guess work as he says himself Sunderland his preferred choice where wages ect comes into with this particular player no idea certainly nothing to say was offered more money than another club... plus was we actually in for him ? Why do people assume we dodnt offer players enough when go to another club? Half the time we are not interested in them

When will squad numbers be announced?

I think he'll be a great signing for Sunderland, especially if the price of 500k is to be believed.

Unfortunately, we don't know the facts and it may be that he would prefer to stay up north. Sunderland might be offering a nice package for him too.

Whoever signs him in this division is likely to have a good striker, I believe.

I wouldn't be surprised to Uche resign towards the, end of the window

We have a wage cap in place which is a disavantage or all other clubs in the championship on a cap of £12,000 a week?

Chris you don’t believe this ‘we’ve got a striker but can’t reveal him’ nonsense!

We’re definitely in for one but no luck yet.

Spot on. Pure guess work and speculation as always.
As you know there are numerous reasons why a player chooses another club.

I’m mean there’s no saying we were even in for him!

We're we even interested in him ? We've seemed to been linked in the media to every striker going .

a 21 year old striker for £500k from a once big club with a recent history of playing their academy players

I bet chelsea's loan fees are more than that

Surely they could get more than that, what is the downside?

Yet also we are told that if the right striker comes up then money will be there

Let's be honest no one knows the exact salary cap or if he's joining Sunderland because we can't offer a financial package

Paul it was a guesstimate from me re the player involved, as I know we were in for Ellis Simms previously

I have to be honest here and say I doubt most rumours these days on the grounds that our club are experts in keeping things inhouse intil they have something to say

Personally, I like and appreciate that but it grinds some to the point of distraction; at which point they make it up, twist it or simply diss anything that isn't in their own heads

Hands up though, I genuinely believed Gareth Bale was signing for us and a harsh lesson learned about certain 'sources' I had listened to previously. I won't do that again... ;)

Chris, I wouldn’t worry about so many plates have been spinning and I for one have been surprised by the work going on behind the scenes.

As you know things change on a whim which they have we’ve lost out on a few and didn’t follow up on others.

Rest assured a striker (or more) will be added before both windows close and closed soon.

Regards GB a lot went on and IMO we got played a little but hey ho has following City ever been guaranteed in however they deal with things.

Keep the faith as should everyone else.
