Morison looks ahead to Swindon
Steve Morison says the level of competition in his Cardiff City squad means no one will have any room for resting on their laurels this season.
City take on League 2 Swindon Town in their last pre-season game of the summer, having extended their unbeaten run this summer with a goalless draw at Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.
It's one last chance to impress the City boss ahead of the new campaign.
STEVE MORISON:
"We've got Swindon, and there's a game against Hereford on the Sunday as well. We then get a nice week leading into Norwich, where it all starts to get real.
"I'm really happy. We've got competition across the board, and the lads have got to push each other. The competition speaks for itself - you look over your shoulder, you've got somebody who wants your shirt.
"It's been a really good time; training has been excellent, and the matches have been good so far. Hopefully we can top it off with a nice win on Saturday going into the season starting the week after."

I was down Leckwith at lunchtime and saw Rubin Colwill and he was limping quite badly so can't see him being involved on Saturday.

Joe Ralls is a major doubt after hobbling off against Shrewsbury Town in midweek. The midfielder went down holding his thigh on the half-hour mark before being pulled at half-time.
He joins Ebou Adams on the treatment table after the ex-Forest Green Rovers man sustained a shoulder injury against Cambridge United in the pre-season opener.
Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies are yet to feature in pre-season and, as things stand, that looks unlikely to change against the Robins. Ollie Tanner has also been missing, too, so whether he plays will be one to keep an eye on.

It looks pretty close to City's strongest team.
There were calls to be made over which of Sang/Sawyers/King started and Sawyers has won that battle.
There was probably a discussion about whether Joel Bagan or Jamilu Collins got the nod but it is the latter who starts today.
No Joe Ralls in the squad, as expected, perhaps, after he was subbed prematurely in the game against Shrewsbury in midweek. No Curtis Nelson, either, he has to settle for a place on the bench, with Kipre and Ng the preferred centre-back pairing.
Dillon Phillips is here and warming up with the goalkeepers, but it's Alnwick on the bench and Allsop starting between the sticks.

Jonny Williams starts for League 2 club Swindon
Jonny Williams starts for Swindon Town against his former club today. Interested to see how he goes, never really had a decent crack at Cardiff.

Kipre commits a foul on McKirdy on the edge of the box. It's a free-kick.

Is there any thinking in the last pre-season friendly being against a lower tiered team?
All I can remember in the past is the last game being a bit more competitive and testing against a higher or similar tier team.

I agree with you, but this is the new way apparently under Steve Morison & The Committee

It comes to nothing, a poor free-kick.

I dont rem in our history our final game being v League 2 team, but Morison said its all about getting wins under us.

Cardiff make their way up the left-hand side, but a foul throw from Collins cedes possession back to the hosts.
Sat Jul 23, 2022 11:08 am
Save! Cardiff win it back and Ojo blasts one from 20 yards and forces a good save from Sol Brynn. First decent effort of the match, that.
Sat Jul 23, 2022 11:09 am
Ojo collects the ball in the midfield, drives forward and hits a powerful left footed strike, but Brynn is equal to it and pushes it away to safety.

Hull are playing Cambridge right now and Huddersfield are playing Tranmere right now.
So it's not just us playing lower league teams.
These matches are still about getting the fitness levels up before the new season next week.

Sawyers shows lovely feet to beat three midfielders and set City on an attack, but Ojo is tackled near the touchline.

Yeah deffo not criticising. More interested as to whether there is new thinking amongst coaches and managers.
As you say a few are similar.
