Steve Morison is delighted with the competition for places at Cardiff City and expects that to ramp up more with even more new bodies in the coming weeks.

City have brought in 12 players so far, 11 permanently and one on loan, but it is no secret they are in the market for forward players and strikers in particular.

Mark Harris and Max Watters are the only forward men as things stand, but the Bluebirds are understood to be working hard behind the scenes to get more new signings through the door. We understand things are heating up in that striker search now that Premier League clubs are back from their pre-season tours, on which some of Cardiff's targets were playing.

Meanwhile, though, the manager said he is happy with the current level of competition, but expects it to ramp up and believes that can only be a positive for his squad.

STEVE MORISON:

"I'm really happy," he said on Tuesday night. "We have got competition across the board. We will have more competition when a couple more new bodies come in. The lads have got to push each other. I don't have to do it, the competition speaks for itself. You look over your shoulder and you've got someone who wants your shirt.

"The staff have given us a new impetus as well. I'm really pleased. I thank the board and Vincent (Tan) for getting behind me and giving us the tools we need. They have been so supportive.

"I can't thank them enough. The staff have been great, all the way from recruitment to my immediate staff. Training has been excellent and the matches have been good so far. Hopefully we can top it off with a win on Saturday (against Swindon Town)."
