Can we get automatic promotion without Bellamy?

Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:33 am

Hopefully we wont need to answer this question but... it is quite possible that he will only be involved in a limited amount of games. Is the squad strong enough to get promoted without him?

It will obvious depend on whether the other players are fit but in my opinion if we can get Oli, Chops, Drinkwater back and keep Jay fit we can do it :ayatollah:

The backup for Jay is a big problem, we dont have any like for like replacement.

Thoughts?

thats down to the fitness of Bothroyd and our centre midfield trio and dependant on who DJ signs in the Jan window :ayatollah:

we are a different side with offy and drinkwater together they cover so much ground give witts burky and jay freedom. i think thats the key for promotion not bellers.even better if we can get 30 games out of bellers :ayatollah:

Agree with this too, we have so much going forward. I think bellamey is a big influence for us, but maybe not our most important player :ayatollah:

I think everyone seems to be in agreement. We can do it without Bellers.

I think having Oli and Jay fit are key to promotion.

Oli is the player we have been missing for years. He is a rock in midfield and takes all the pressure of the defence, he can be our very own Makele. For me, Oli is the best signing this season.

personally i think if we had a full fit sqaud we would be now sitting at the top of the table.... afew more games like ipswich / leicester and we will be holding up somewhere in the middle...... so fitness is def the key to this season :ayatollah:

We are not going to get an ideal replacement for Jay I think most of us agree with that. So when Jay is not fit we need a different approach like a plan B. I personaly feel we have a player in Keogh who could give us that plan B but we need to work on it.

With Jay its the target man with the high ball but with Keogh he looks like a player who would benefit with the ball to his feet running into spaces in the area. We need to work on provising a service for him. If we can do that then auto is a possibility.

I agree, if it had only been Jay out injured, we would probably have had the players there, to provide the passes/ammunition for Keogh!

Without the likes of Bellamy, Olly, Drinks and Chops however, we certainly don't seem to have the firepower!

Oli,Drinkwater and Bothroyd are the key to promotion this year. Bellamy is the added "luxury"

Come end of season we will be there

I think Oli is the most important man in the squad, if we can keep him fit then we have a chance.

offy and drinkwater let our attacking midfields play but also make hudson and gabo look half good they protect them so much with out them against ipswich and leic they look average centrehalfs at best :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Hands up who was a bit sceptical when we signed Drinkwater!

Bit of an unknown Man Utd reserve who had spent some time at Huddersfield? or somewhere?

Now look at him! Already being hailed as one of the most important players in the team! Great signing :ayatollah:

I was lucky. My mates a Huddersfield lad and a Man Utd fan. He cannot get tickets for United home
games so watched Hudders a lot last season. He saw Drinkwater a lot and reckons given a few games
in the Premiership right now, he'd be better than Gibson or Fletcher.

His words on H2o ..... "you'll go up with him in your side"

Agree. But better with him, eh??

Danny and Oli have super impressed during the early games and will be key to the season. I'm just disappointed that players who 'did the biz' for us last season have let us down a little in the last couple of games. Is that what being out of the team does??

I'm sure we'll be up there somewhere after the Chrimbo fixtures....then surely the club will re-assess and get the additional bodies in to complete the task??

Too good an opportunity to miss....

To be honest with out him I think we are a play/off team that should be pushing for the top two.

With him I think we are a top 2 team without a doubt.

I do still think the squad is learning this new formation, a lot of players moving into knew roles that they havent been used to under DJ. Jay now has to learn the lone role, Chops when back learn to play a bit more wide I would have thought. Burke now a lot more forward pushing up with Jay when possible. None of the CM's are used to playing in a 3 (except maybe oli) and witts has totally moved position. Just imagine when they all click? Witts and McPhail get there passing boots on, its can be quite a team.
