MY VIEW TONIGHT: CARDIFF THE BETTER TEAM / BUT

Tue Jul 19, 2022 8:56 pm

MY HONEST VIEW:

CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB CARDIFF CITY DREW 0-0 WITH LEAGUE 1 CLUB SHREWSBURY TOWN

Cardiff were by far the better team and they should be, but in front of goal my honest opinion we are virtually useless.

Max Watters & Mark Harris are not the answers, the fans know that , the manager Steve Morison has known this for the last 6 months and the board.

All Morison’s hard work could be ruined if 2 good strikers are not brought in with in the next 2 weeks.

What a shame if this does not happen.

Yes City are undefeated v Cambridge, Newport, Cheltenham and Shrewsbury and that excites Steve Morison, but real test will come soon from 30th July v Norwich, Reading etc

Us fans can only hope.

FOR ME NO QUALITY STRIKERS / SEASON WILL BE IVER BEFORE IT STARTS.

I have a bad feeling about the season building. No strikers and we'll be fighting relegation and a season full of draws.

Annis I really hate criticising our players but I feel some are not good enough for varying reasons.
King nowhere near good enough yet. Back to the under 23s imo.
Bagan is now the worst of our 3 fullbacks
Harris is not the striker we need. Try to sell imo.

My team for Norwich

Allsop

Vontae. Denham. Cedric. Collins

Ojo. Sawyers. Wintle. Rhino. O’Dowda

NEW STRIKER

Subs / Alnwick, Romeo ,NG Nelson. Sang. Leahy. Tanner. ANOTHER STRIKER

The finish by Harris with a one on one at the end was dreadful. Just sums him up really. Work rate is brilliant but hes not good enough to even be a squad player. Its getting tedious talking about strikers now. Without any additions soon we will have a dreadful start to the season. This side is going nowhere without a forward line. A better side would have also punished us tonight too as playing out from the back looked flimsy at times.

Collins looks a very good signing

Played well again.

The striker is still the missing part of a good team that can compete.

Absolutely crucial we bring at least one in before Norwich.

I actually find the rest of it very positive. We have a very very good midfield and the new full backs are great additions. Also think Kipre looks a strong signing and Allsop can be relied on in goal.

He does indeed. First choice LB imo.

Early days but right back position still worries me a bit. I don’t think Romeo is the answer and Campbell got disposed quite easily a few times today hopefully just a poor game from him

I feel like Cody will become available too and probably go to another club

We need two strikers as a minimum Watters is a lower league player at Best. Harris how much longer do you give him? as things stand not sure where the goals are going to come from. Lets hope and prey Morrison as something lined up and soon.

Cheers Wez. Was thinking of NG instead of Denham but lack of height would be a worry. He nearly got in at right back too.

We need 2 strikers and a centre half. ASAP.
Although I'd be presently surprised if this happens before
the last few days of the transfer window.

Just got back, a quick summary

1 Passing the ball quicker and better
2.Pass and move better
3.Slicker football, better to watch
4.Started very brightly, but as Shrewsbury pushed further upfield, we were having to play neat football in areas that didnt hurt them
5.Quite a few heart in mouth moments that we will not get away with against Norwich
6.We have to be extremely fit to play thus new style over 60 mins let alone 90 mins
7.2nd half team, which looked like our current second string on paper didmuch better than expected and ckped slightly better than the team in the 1st hour.
8. We seem much quicker as a team
9.its clear we are working to win back lost balls quickly

As time goes by all this will get better.

However, Burnley got 3 against these, we got no goals. Striker(s) is a huge issue.

Harris miss at the end summed up his ability as a Chamlionship striker, and we gave him a new contract last year???

Oh, and another point. Even in these friendlies opponents still see our left side as a weakness as Shrewsbury were continually trying to put pressure on Bagan.

I didn't see the game so thanks for your concise summary.

Seems like the team is starting to gel nicely, which is a very positive sign considering they've barely had the time to get to know one another.

I would imagine that SM is as frustrated as the fans that we are still lacking those two final pieces to the jigsaw. I will be amazed if at least one of them is not in place before the Norwich game.

Really encouraged by the way the ball was moved about with much more running off the ball too.
Bagan’s defence and positioning is a concern though and Nelson also struggled with playing the ball out from the back.
Apart from obvious need for a couple of strikers, pleased with what I saw.

You're spot on with everything apart from the comment "All Morison’s hard work could be ruined if 2 good strikers are not brought in with in the next 2 weeks." in my opinion.

There are 6 weeks to go in this window (closes 1st September). I would much rather bide our time and make sure we get quality in than panic buy now and get people in just to fill a gap. If it means waiting for the Prem clubs to decide at the end of the window and then getting quality in then so be it.

As I said in a previous topic, in Malky's promotion season we lost away at the Wurzels (4-2 ?) then went out and bought 3-4 players at the end of the window and went up as Champions. Forest were right down the bottom last September and they didn't do too badly so nothing is won or lost in August

I absolutely agree that we aren't good enough upfront at the moment and it is getting a bit nerve wracking but Morison has consistently only brought in players who he wants and fit the plan, in my view a rash signing now just to appease us fans risks ruining all the hard work up to now much more than just getting in someone to fill the gap.

Don't get me wrong, I would love this to have been all done and dusted by now, but I'm willing to wait given Morison's success in the transfer market from January onwards. He knows its an issue he needs to resolve and I just have to have confidence that he knows what he's going to do about it.

Good post, I think Morison has a fast little Striker lined up from his comments, so hopefully we'll have one here before the start of the season.

Re: MY VIEW TONIGHT: CARDIFF THE BETTER TEAM / BUT

I live in Shrewsbury and know a bit about their team. Their fans are not expecting a promotion push this season and would be delighted with a top ten finish.in their previous 2 friendlies they lost 3-1 at home to Burnley and in the one before they were held to a 0-0 draw by local rivals Telford who were almost relegated from the national league north las season. So at least we matched their result.

I was extremely impressed with the way we started the match last night passed the ball about really well and did create some chances in the first 20 minutes.

Watters should have scored in the first 5 minutes after good work from Ojo and Campbell sent a pinpoint accurate cross to him which he headed over. It was the start of a master class in failing to take chances from Watters and later Mark Harris.

I’m sure I was not the only person to start losing heart as our utterly useless strikers failed to score once again. The reason we got two loan strikers in last season was because of the inability of Harris and Watters to score at this level. Why on earth have we signed 12 new players with not one of them being a striker? Does Morrison have something against players who can score goals? He has sold top scorer Moore, second top scorer Flint and won’t play Cowill who is our best scoring midfielder.

People say we will be getting one if not too new strikers in but where are they?

The match was summed up for me towards the end when Harris was through on the oppositions goalkeeper and you absolutely knew he would bugger the chance up and did. According to some Shrewsbury fans we were a bit better than Telford though the result was the same.

strikers are hard to get especially good ones they cost money even with loans , we have not had a decent striker for a while and i am certain Morrison knows this but unless Tan is going give him millions my worry is we will bring in another striker no better than Harris or watters who are not goo enough at championship level.

I've been watching city since 1972, never known us to do any good bringing in freebies and lower league players it never works no matter what hype comes from the club, It's going to be a boring season ahead , we'll finish between 16th and 19th. Sorry to say Cardiff city got no ambition
