UPDATED " CARDIFF CITY MAKE 11TH SIGNING "

Wed Jul 13, 2022 5:15 am

Cardiff City FC are delighted to confirm that Sheyi Ojo has re-joined the club on a two-year contract, subject to clearance.

The 25-year-old returns to Cardiff City Stadium for a second spell with the Bluebirds, having spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan in the Welsh capital.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=144783

Ojo was released by Liverpool last month, so joins the Bluebirds as free agent.

During that time, the former England U21 international scored five goals and recorded seven assists in 41 City appearances, helping to secure valuable points against Preston North End, Middlesbrough, Barnsley and Rotherham United.

A product of the Liverpool Academy, Ojo made his First Team debut for the Reds in January 2016 before going on to gain Championship experience with the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham and, most recently, Millwall.

The winger, who departed Anfield after eleven years earlier this summer, has put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him at CCS until the summer of 2024.

Sheyi Ojo:

After completing his move to South Wales, Sheyi said: “I really enjoyed myself last time I was here, and I’ve got some unfinished business to do. I’m really looking forward to the season, and I hope we can do some special things.

“I didn’t actually get to see the fans last time I was here, so I’m really looking forward to that. The one thing that was missing last time was the fans, so I’m excited for the first game.

“I’m excited to train with the boys, and get stuck in. I know a few of the boys already, so I’m really looking forward to it. Off the pitch, I’ve got some close friends who live here as well, and I really liked being in Cardiff last time I was here.”

Steve Morison commented: “Sheyi adds to that top end of the pitch and gives us some extra quality up there. He’s got lots of power and pace, and I’m very excited to see him in action.

“He was very good when he was here on loan, but I think there’s more to come from him. I liked him when I first saw him, and when the opportunity came up to bring him to the Club permanently, it was a no brainer.

“It’s a permanent transfer for him, and he’s at an age now where he has a real chance to bed in, be somewhere, and make it his home.”

Sheyi Ojo is set to join Cardiff after being released by boyhood side Liverpool
Daily Mail

Former Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo is set to re-join Cardiff as they continue their major summer overhaul.

Ojo has undergone a medical and is set to sign a three-year deal, becoming Cardiff’s 11th signing of a busy transfer window for manager Steve Morison and the Welsh outfit.

The 25 year-old will join on a free after leaving Liverpool this summer at the end of his contract.

And Cardiff have held off interest from Championship rivals QPR to bring Ojo back to the Welsh capital.

Ojo enjoyed a successful loan spell at Cardiff during the 2020/21 season, making 42 appearances and scoring five times and creating seven goals.

That was one of a number of temporary spells he had while at Liverpool who he made 13 appearances for in total after joining the Anfield club aged 14 from MK Dons.

This is a very positive signing for the Bluebirds

We know the player, what he can bring and he was (mainly) liked

The current manager will get the best out of him

Interesting to see what Barclay1 makes of this ( :laughing6: ) but for me it's a very definite 'Welcome back Sheyi Ojo' :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Love this. We didn’t get to see him play live either. Always a dangerous player. Imagine him on one wing and Tanner on the other…..

A very good signing and on a 3 year contract. This has been kept quiet as have all of our signings, hopefully something happening on the striker front.

2 new strikers and maybe a left footed central defender and we really will have a decent team!!!

Fair play to Tan he has backed his manager yet again..the new signings maybe free transfers but they would have commanded decent salaries

Another piece of the jigsaw in place, good luck to the manager, players, coaches and medical staff for what will hopefully be a good season and a new dawn in exciting (hopefully) playing style. :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

I'm pleasantly surprised by this one !!

He looked good for us on loan when he first came but seemed to fade away when McCarthy came in and looked to play even more direct football. From memory he scored a couple of important goals too.

If we get a centre back and couple of decent strikers in now I would make a very strong argument that the squad is significantly stronger than last year and we haven't been able to even claim that for a number of seasons. Even more remarkable given the numbers he had to replace but just shows how much dead wood we were carrying !!

I thought he done well for us before ,but he's another winger need strikers unless they are going to play him as a striker

Great signing if it's true.

Bring in x2 strikers and perhaps Michael Hector at centre back and I think we are good to go!!

Happy with this!!

Real threat going forward, him and Romeo down our right, lightning pace!!

Really getting excited for this season now

This is great news. A decent footballer who was always put in the effort even when things didnt go his way. Always seemed very positive so imagine he's a good character to have around. On his day was also difficult to mark and that was in a team that was very route one. Would be keen to see him in our new style.

Fantastic signing if Morison has pulled this off.

Very capable, and dangerous player at this level.
Can only see him performing better also with the ball on the floor.

Although Tanner needs to develop some end product, the thought of having Tanner one side, Ojo the other.
With the likes of Sawyers, Rubin etc who can interchange with them, very exciting to see!

On top of all that, we haven’t even discussed O’Dowda yet either.

Shaping up to be the best transfer window in a very long time. Just need to find them strikers now!

Flattered to deceive when here before and unless something has changed I can''t see this one being a good signing He's had seven loans and although talented he has never been consistent. Hope I'm proved wrong but nothing in his previous loans suggest he has the capability of being consistent for a season.

No wingers are consistent and if they are they get moved up top. That's why you need 4-5 wingers in a squad to rotate which we now have.

Ojo's last time here he scored 5 and had 7 assists which is decent. His crossing was very good from what I remember and I think he'll do well in this new system. Good signing for us.

I think he is a good signing, yeah he has had lots of loans but he has never been allowed to settle anywhere which is the problem lots of young players have who are owned by the Top 6 and loaned out every season. He has just turned 25 so has his best years ahead of him, he is quick and fitted what Harris was trying to do so should also suit Morisons style of play nicely.
Good signing and the team is coming together nicely.

It must be remembered that Kieffer Moore was a big beneficiary when Ojo was here last time and it was no coincidence when his goals dried up a bit after Ojo went. Another top class signing if by the Gaffer if it comes off and for nothing.

Sure he will do well banging those crosses in to Collins who cant hit a barn door with a padlock. Either we are in a deep meaningful convo with a striker(s) who can bang in goals or we are fecked...my opinion of course. :bluebird:

Ray of sunshine this morning aren’t you?

I think a striker is about to sign, probably be announced with Ojo. Morison stated Collins wasn’t to be let go until a suitable replacement was sourced.

Few rumours gathering pace today that Collins undergoing a medical at Derby.

Plus, the fact that Collins was no where near the team last night, I think that also speaks volumes.

As i have posted before we have a striker who has signed but has been long delayed, I do know why but have been told not to divulge the reason why no announcement, just hope it's announced soon along with the second striker we are after

Common sense , we all know we need strikers . So dont you think SM knows that too . Ojo when we enquired about him after his loan with us , we were quoted £12m I seem to remember . So 2 years later having him on a free , seems very good business ;)
