First half pros and cons

Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:20 pm

Positives:

Tanner has been fantastic
Wintle has been great
Ng and Denham look good as a pair
Allsop looks great

Negatives:

Watters... Forgot he was playing.

Played some good football, no cutting edge

Newport are poor.

Thought Watters has made some nice touches but we haven't really created any opportunities, which is what a striker needs.

I do agree on the cutting edge, I think a left winger would fix that. Whilst Newport are poor, you have to be impressed with our pressing and work ethic off the ball.

I find it hard to say Watters was poor, he had nothing to work with. Whilst it’s great seeing us play football other than Tanner we had no creativity on the field. And for a striker like Watters who likes to make intelligent runs you need someone in the middle who can spot them.

I watched him quite closely, for example at one point he drifted wide, long ball to him nice touch and fed it back in to midfield. He then dropped his head and walked, then ambled towards the middle of the field as the game went on... bit of effort needed.

Made two lovely touches to put Whyte in during the second half but Whyte looked a bit off the pace and unable to react quickly enough.

Yes couple of nice touches, but...

Need either a central midfielder who is able to pick his runs out - we have a few who are out today in Rinhamoto, Sawyers, and Ralls, and a winger on the left who can create something too. Really not a fan of Harris. I think Watters will be a good striker if we have the right service around him. You can see he's an intelligent player with his touches and runs.
