‘ Callum Doyle ‘

Mon Jul 11, 2022 6:48 pm

I thought Morison had a special relationship with Man City & Leeds now according to Glen Williams, we would be getting players regularly?

Let’s hope we get a striker from one of them on loan.

Tommy Doyle went on loan from Man City to Sheffield United.

COVENTRY CITY FC:

We are delighted to announce the signing of Callum Doyle from Manchester City on a season-long loan.

Doyle joins the Sky Blues from the Premier League champions for the 2022/23 season.

Callum will link-up with City fresh off the back of helping England Under-19s to European Championship glory, having scored in the final against Israel.

The centre-back spent the 2021/22 season in League One with Sunderland, where he played over 35 games, aiding their return to the Championship via the play-offs.

Doyle becomes the Sky Blues’ second summer signing and, after the deal was signed, City boss Mark Robins had this to say:

“We are delighted to welcome Callum to Coventry City.

“He is a really good player with a lot of potential, who we know a lot about, and we’re all looking forward to working with him.

“Callum is a regular in the England set-up and was a key player in helping the Under-19s win the European Championships only a few weeks ago, scoring in the final.

It’s possible that this new rule classifying us as an ‘overseas’ country may be affecting any relationship that we may have formed with Man City who send out a lot of players on loan. The club did say it had affected two potential loans that had been lined up

New ruling has done us. They want to send all their best to play in European competitions.
So they won't waste a loan on us for someone who is boarder line a future player.

We can still sign 5 good loans, it’s not that bad a news.

Cardiff being affiliated with the FAW, if Cardiff were to loan in or loan out a player aged 21 or over from or to an English club it will be subject to the FIFA quotas. It is why you often see Cardiff announce signings "subject to international clearance" due to the need to ratify an international transfer certificate (ITC).

The new rules, as things stand, do not cover domestic loans so Cardiff, Swansea , Newport are ok for another three years, but FIFA has said national associations must bring their regulations in line within three years - so by July 1, 2025 at the latest.

It should also be added that players under the age of 21 have to be club-trained to be exempt from the quota. That means they have to be registered with the parent club between the ages of 15 and 21 for three seasons or 36 months, regardless of whether the period is continuous or not. So, the very slight positive news is that these rules are not in place when trying to recruit club-trained players under the age of 21, like Tommy Doyle was last season, so Cardiff could still recruit players like Tommy Doyle.

Man City have feeder clubs that they send a lot of their players out on loan too, same goes for Chelsea. It will be difficult for us to sign anyone from those two clubs on loan.
