CARDIFF CITY’S FIRST TEAM v LEAGUE 2 NEWPORT COUNTY
Striker James Collins looks like he will finally be leaving as he was dropped for tonight.
Cardiff City 2-0 Newport County: Gavin Whyte and James Crole strike late to beat Newport County in pre-season clash
After a flurry of first-half chances by Cardiff, and having to survive a scare or two of their own, Crole set up Whyte for the first with 15 minutes left to play. The winger then shortly returned the favour just minutes later, slotting in academy striker Crole, who hammered in his first goal for the senior side to make the scoreline a little more comfortable in the dying minutes.
While Cardiff huffed and puffed, though, that final act was always missing. Even Mark Harris tried, who brought down a lovely ball over the top before poking past Townsend, couldn't find the back of the net as his effort trickled agonisingly wide once again.
Newport a very poor team, nothing creative by them.while Cardiff’s Wintle, King and Sang controlled the midfield . Tanner a created most of the good opportunities, but his final ball needs working on.Honestly Newport very poor in comparison.
Second-Half:
6 changes for City.
Alnwick, Leahy, Semenyo, J. Colwill, Wigley & Crole come on!
Allsop, Wintle, Sang, King, Harris & Watters replaced. (0-0)
Please note - this fixture will now be a traditional 90 minute match!

James Rowberry's Newport County who will visit the Cardiff International Sports Stadium in Leckwith. They will likely boast a few former Bluebirds, with Joe Day, Aaron Wildig, James Waite and Sam Bowen in their ranks as well as Chanka Zimba, who is on loan there from Cardiff.
The fixture takes place at Leckwith due to ground staff currently working on the Cardiff City Stadium pitch for the new term. The two clubs initially agreed to play two sixty-minute games, however it has since been confirmed that it will now be only one 90-minute match.
Ebou Adams looks unlikely to feature after suffering a nasty-looking shoulder injury against Cambridge United at the weekend. Callum O'Dowda, Rubin Colwill, Joe Ralls and Romaine Sawyers were also missing from that one, whether they are involved against the Exiles remains to be seen.

Scrap that, just seen your post Annis, cheers!

Still no Sawyers or Ralls, maybe looking at Saturday for their first pre season game.
James Collins not involved at all so maybe he's going?
Saying that no Rinomhota either and Adams obviously injured.

That seagull that keeps flying across the screen doing anyone else head in!

Any score yet?
Any stand out performances so far?

0-0 still.
Playing some beautiful, relaxed, build-up from the back football. Tanner looks good, has excellent first touches, and is very confident to beat his man.
Full backs pushing high which is nice to see. Decision-making has been good. King looks good in the middle. So far, really impressed, all that's lacking is a goal.

Cheers JF.

Allsop also looks very comfortable and composed on the ball for a goalkeeper.

Nice assessment. The obvious is, we need a striker or two.
Tanner is confident, has great pace and touch, just concerned his final ball / decision will be frustrating anyone remember Josh Low?

Josh Low. Could have been a top player but end product let him down massively.
How long has Wintle got left on his contract? He is going to be integral to us in this system. Put a 5 year one on the table for him now.

Wayne, I think I heard Morison say similar. Step in some coaches to sort it out.

0-0 half time.
We have been very impressive in my opinion. It's been really enjoyable to watch.
Tanner is the stand-out player for me. He and Campbell at right-back look like they have a great understanding of each other. Tanner could be a real coup.
All players look composed and confident on the ball, even in tricky situations. Newport has hardly had any possession. Off the ball, we have been very quick to press and win the ball back. We have pace and athleticism which we were massively lacking.
Very impressed with Allsop´s composure too for a goalkeeper. As things stand I would say we're missing a left-winger and a center-half but I genuinely have no complaints. I would say our style may see us make some risky errors at Championship level but hopefully, we get a composed center half in.
Enjoying Mozza ball and am excited to see how we progress with more minutes and games.

Quality half that - obviously it's Newport and pre season, but just really nice to see us making long passing plays up the field. It feels like we have options in the midfield to attack, although still just missing that critical finish.
Tanner, Denham, King and Jamilu Collins have all impressed me - good work City!

Positives;
Neat and tidy
Passing the ball
Some good pass and move
Tanner exceptional
Vontae very quick
Back 4 untroubled, but had some rub of the green
Negatives
Clearly no end product. We need strikers
Even though we have hit the post and worked their keeper, a goal seems a long way off at the moment .

Think Tom sang has played well too.
Love the look of tanner, commentators saying that we may play someone with a bit more experience but he looks better than anything we’ve had in that department in the last few years.
Wintle as said above give him a longer contract breaks up so much of the play.
Impressive football just lacking a much needed striker.
Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:25 pm
All sounding positive. Just missing that striker to put the ball in the net it seems. I’m sure we will get one in soon. I’m very interested to see this Tanner play. Sounds like an exciting player.

Lots of pretty possession and bright approach play but this game is about putting the ball in the back of net. Harris and Watters undelining their lower divsion quality. Not good enough. Strikers are essential if this side is to have a half decent season. That's a cracked record really.

Loads of changes on the hour and without any stadium announcer , have very little idea of who we brought on
Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:51 pm
Completely different team in the second half. Game not flowing so well, and young players playing out of position. A lot scrappier and you can see some of the players are lacking that match sharpness.
Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:52 pm
2nd half and Newport very much in control.
Standard dropped considerably.

No stadium announcer and no programme or even programme sheet is very poor show. All to save a few bob.
It may only be a friendly, but some sort of experience would be appreciated.

Liking the look of No 21 Semenyo. Not too shabby for an 18 year old.
