A subject that has effected my life personally.

My daughter spent 18 months in a number of hospitals where she was held under the Mental Health Act (MHA). She was admitted with an Eating Disorder but went downhill very quickly and become a suicidal case. I point the finger at one hospital and one Consultant for this who would not listen to me when I said his treatment was not working. This was a Childs hospital and when she turned 18 she was transferred to an Adult unit. A year after her "release" from the place 3 kids committed suicide under his watch. We considered ourselves lucky here.

During this time a number of the staff had a word with me in private. They totally agreed with me that it was not working and this Consultant was getting it all wrong. They believed it was this Baby P case that made lot of these Consultants afraid to release patients back into society. The backlash they would get if it went wrong was not worth it. Eventually I came across another Consultant who agreed with me and my Daughter was released a couple of days later. A couple of years later she is back on track with her life and has moved on. For me I'm struggling to move on with it.

As for this Baby P mother my opinion is she should remain in prison for the rest of her life. I believe in giving people second chances but this one stepped well over my boundaries. Adding to that I also believe its clouded the judgement of our "Caring" society where this side effect of it had added doubt to our Professionals we put faith in.

I was labour but especially new labour through and through but the death of baby P made me review my beliefs.

My overriding memory of the incident was the blaming of social services, the leader of the social services in particular; local authorities, and police, but messed up evil people do messed up evil things however many state agencies are involved.

The salaries of the people shocked me but equally how badly Ed Balls dealt with it. All the media especially the BBC were interested in was singling out one person, the leader of Harringay social services, not the evil bastards that were involved in torturing a baby, they were barely mentioned.

This idea that the state can cure all ills had gone too far, I felt that we as a country had reneged any personal responsibility to the state, it was always someone else fault.
The state sector lapped it up, it meant more money,over-reaching authority encroaching ever more on our daily lives.

I drifted more right after this and want a smaller government and state sector. It will never happen, the die has been cast and collectively we always blame the police chief constable, a politician who has never heard of the case or the leader of a council.

The world is not that Tom Cruise's film "Minority report", you can't stop evil people doing evil things however much money we pay the government

I believe the mother of baby P was of very low IQ, its a tough one, what do you do with people who really shouldn't have kids?

Whatever the rights or wrongs of letting her out on parole what is far more concerning is the political interference in the parole system? It's been in operation for ever with occasional problem but now it seems politicians and anyone with an interest want to stop people being released because they dont like decision? We have a justice system that was free from political interference but now its turning out like usa where politicians decide ....
At this rate no one would be freed because someone somewhere will object to parole decision....same thing is happening with sentencing that is being challenged by every tom dick and arry because they dont like decision.... next will be the 3 strikes your in for life like usa..
