Millwall have released Mahlon Romeo on a free to Cardiff City.

Mahlon has signed a three-year contract with the Bluebirds, moving from Millwall. He previously played alongside City boss Steve Morison while with the Lions.







Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo has clinched a move to Cardiff City after being sent out last season on a year long loan to league 1 Portsmouth.

Romeo who is 27 years old in 2 months is joining the Welsh club on a free.

Cardiff City have handed Romeo a 3 year contract.

After passing his medical this afternoon.

Romeo made 41 appearances for Portsmouth in League 1 last season after joining them on loan in September.

Romeo was outstanding for Millwall in League 1 and when the Lions gained promotion to the Championship Romeo faded and went back to League 1 and was one of Pompeys main players.


The right-back, who is also comfortable in a back five, will link up again with his former Lions team-mate Steve Morison, who has been in charge at Cardiff since replacing Mick McCarthy in October 2021.

Romeo played 221 matches for Millwall and was a shrewd free transfer pick up by Neil Harris in the 2015 close season following his release by Gillingham.

Good to have a seventh new player before pre-season has even begun.

Another option who had a very good season in the league below.

He's at a good age as well and will want to prove he's good enough at this level.

As I said on another topic, this will 100% be Morison's team and he will live or die depending on how we do.

Sounds as if he struggled in the championship so had to drop down a leagu

Why do we have to award 3 year contracts? A long time to pay wages if the player doesn’t work out. Surely 24 months would be more reasonable.

I didn’t have a 3 year contract when I worked; even after many years service, my company could get rid of me with 12 weeks notice although the redundancy terms were up to two years base pay after 20 years service aged over 40, but not much for people below 40.

Yes he was brilliant against us ,I think he will be a good squad signing and thr bonus is Morison knows him well ,it'd a bout the team geling and not about individuals

Don't know much about either of the two signed today, so I cannot comment. They will have my full support though.

Morrisson did a great job in terms of recruitment last January, so I am happy to be patient and give these boys time and not have a knee-jerk reaction just because they're somewhat unknown.

This has to be one of the steals of the season. He needed to go because he questioned the Millwall how do i say it, more right-leaning fans who are a sizable or noisy majority whilst here they are a dissatisfied uber minority.

This is a quality championship fullback who knows the league,he had to join a L1 club just to get out of town.

If the Millwall fans hate him I can only regard that as a positive.

I would hope that our club is a much more inclusive one !!

I only have a limited memory of him playing against us but if this is the player I’m thinking of then he probably will be first choice right back.

Right centre back of a three.

We had Romeo on loan at Pompey last season. Very good solid defender and very good going forward.
His weakness was his crossing ability.
He was to skillful for league one, gets himself into some great forward positions.
If he improves on his crossing then you have yourself a very good fullback/wingback.

Definitely getting excited as Morison said we should...

Im wondering if Morrison will play NG as central midfielder. I think the last few games of the season he tried him out in that position, and didn’t do to bad.

Unfortunately we only ever seem to get screenshots of the the negative comments on Facebook and twitter. From the few bits I’ve seen and read he’s a steal on a free.
